Who’s Sitting on the Throne of Your Life?

Is God sitting on the throne of your life or are you? Who’s in charge? You or God?

We all would like to say that God is on the throne of our life and that Jesus is Lord of my life – but remember, God gave us a free will and many of us are using it to our detriment.

Do you read God’s Word and ignore walking in what He has said? Do you make up your own plans and then ask God to bless them? Do you waffle and waver when you know God is speaking to you about certain situations?

Your free will should be used to say yes to God’s ways and plans for you. All of His ways are so much better than yours. So, why do you think you can run your life so much better than He can? Pride, for one thing!

Jeremiah 10:23 (KJV) 23  O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

We are tripartite beings – spirit, soul, and body. The real us is our spirit man –our inner man. We have a soul, which is our mind, will, emotions, personality, character, and we live in a body, our outward man. [I Thes. 5:23]

Because God is a Spirit [John 4:24], we have to contact God spirit to Spirit  with our inner man. We don’t contact God with our minds or our bodies. We contact Him with our spirit. That’s where all the good stuff is! That’s where the Holy Spirit resides. We are powerhouses because the Holy Spirit indwells us, if we’ve been born-again.

But, as I always say, there’s a God-part and a man-part. God has already done His part. He’s already given us everything pertaining to life and godliness, and everything resides in our reborn spirit – perfect, whole, and complete in every way. Your spirit is perfect, whole, and complete and can’t get any more perfect. It’s already as perfect as Jesus because we’re joined with Him. We’re one with Him. [I Cor. 6:17; John 17:11]

The word one is heis in Greek and means singular to the exclusion of another. We are one with Jesus and our spirit is as perfect as it will ever be – just like Jesus. I know that’s a mouthful but God said it and that settles it!

As we yield more and more to the Lordship of Jesus in our lives and live according to His Word, we draw on His promises through faith. That’s where we experience all that God has for us.

God’s Promises are for Us but are Not Automatic!

2 Peter 1:3-4 (KJV) 3  According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and
4  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

2 Corinthians 1:20 (KJV) 20  For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Oh the promises of God! How awesome that Almighty God would so graciously extend to us all that He has! What a life He intends for us! So, why aren’t we seeing His promises manifesting in our lives? Good question!

First of all, when God speaks, we should listen! He has said that all of His promises are for us and they’re always in the “yes” column! But, just because God has given, doesn’t mean we automatically receive. Receiving is not automatic.

Our problem is not with the Giver – God, but is with us – the receiver. Receiving anything from God is not automatic. Take salvation for example: God has given but not all receive because receiving is a choice and requires faith on our part. Faith activates the promises as we reach out and take hold on what God has already given.

Let’s use healing as another example. I Pet. 2:24 tells us that by the stripes of Jesus we were healed – past tense. This is a done deal. Healing has already been provided through the Lord Jesus but not everyone is healed – just look around!

It’s not God’s fault that people aren’t healed. He’s done His part so we’re the ones who have missed it somewhere on the receiving end. Remember, faith activates the power of God and causes His promises to manifest in our lives: healing, deliverance, provision, protection, wholeness, etc. All of these have been provided for us but all are not walking in their inheritance.

We need to take God at His Word and take our places as sons and daughters of the Most High God. He loves us and wants us to partake of all He’s provided. That’s why He’s made every provision for us. He’s looking for those to whom He can show Himself strong (II Chronicles 16:9). Be one of those!

1 Peter 2:24 (KJV) 24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

2 Chronicles 16:9 (KJV) 9  For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

Reality or Smoking Mirrors?

Can you say that you’re better off today than a year ago? 5 years ago? If you aren’t better off, why is that?

Are you just going through the motions and hoping all will be okay? If you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you? If you’re no better off than those who are unsaved, that ought not to be. Unfortunately, it’s true about many Christians that from a glance, you couldn’t tell the difference between them and their unsaved neighbors. They’re just as sick, depressed, and in debt as those around them. What’s the problem?

First of all, it is definitely not the will of God to be poor, sick, depressed and a sorry mess. That’s the devil’s plans for all mankind. So, what has happened?

Let’s go back to the beginning when you first got saved. Things were so sweet and your love affair with the Lord was at its peak. But after the honeymoon, you came back to earth and the reality of life stared you in the face.

However, if you took your salvation seriously, you continued in God’s Word: studying, growing, and maturing in the things of God. Then when problems arose, you attacked them with the Word and stood your ground against the devil and his plans to rob your faith. Then when you looked back over the previous years you saw how you’ve grown.

However, if along the way, you let the problems of life overtake you and crowd out God’s way of doing things, you now find yourself no better off than the heathen except that you’re saved. And saved you are! Thank the Lord for that but what kind of testimony do you have that will cause people to want what you have? They already have nothing, can do nothing that works, and they’re depressed over it!

We need to be beacons of light, announcing to the world that God’s ways are a lot better than theirs. God’s plans for us are far better than we can think, know, or imagine and we are fully able to walk in them.

Yes, it takes effort to walk in God’s ways as does everything that’s worth doing and having. But we have supernatural help and that will put us over!

Let’s get back to God’s Word and follow His plans and walk in victory!

2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) 15  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Hebrews 12:1b (KJV)  … let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Does it Matter What You Believe?

Many people are of the opinion that “as long as you believe it, it’s ok or even if you don’t believe, it God understands!” This does not cut it! Yes, God understands but that doesn’t mean He agrees with you. It’s not about God understanding but on your doing what the Word tells you to do and that is to believe His Word with all your heart. What you believe can mean the difference between Heaven and hell and will affect your eternal destiny. You have to believe the right thing, if you want the right results!

A certain minister who had taken a group of Bible students on a missions trip, overheard one of them talking to a passerby. He was telling the person that it didn’t really matter what he believed but just to say the sinner’s prayer.

Well, the minister stopped that right in its tracks and said that it certainly did matter what he believed in order to get saved!

Likewise, it really does matter what you believe if you’re going to walk in the promises of God and see them manifested in your life. You can’t half-heartedly believe the Word of God and expect to get His results. It doesn’t work that way.

Notice the following scriptures:

Romans 10:9-10 (KJV) 9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Mark 11:23-24 (KJV) 23  For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. 24  Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Jesus tells us to believe in our hearts, confess with our mouths, and believe that we receive when we pray. Then we’ll get the desired results. It matters what you believe!

Then there are those who say it doesn’t matter what you believe as long as you’re a good person and try to do the right thing. Where is that in the Bible? It isn’t but sadly many people are of that persuasion.

Let’s go in a little different direction. What do you believe about healing? Do you believe that God still heals today? Have you ever been sick and got healed? Well, Who do you think healed you? Even doctors report that they cannot heal. They only address the symptoms. The rest is up to God.

Have you ever had a cut and watched it heal? Who do you think made your body to heal like that? God, of course! So, we see that God still heals today but let’s take it a step further.

When sickness attaches itself to your body, is God the first One you go to or is it the doctor and the medical staff? Do you go to the doctor and then when you get an evil report, turn to God in desperation and plead for healing? This ought not so to be!

Nowhere in the Bible does God tell us that in the 21st century, healing will no longer be available to us from Him.

Let’s look at Luke 4.

Luke 4:18 (KJV) 18  The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised …

Acts 10:38 (KJV) 38  How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

1 John 3:8b (KJV)  For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Notice that Jesus came to heal and destroy the works of the devil. And of course sickness is the work of the devil because if sickness were of God, then Jesus would have been in direct opposition to the Father’s will. It grieves me to hear that people think that God put sickness on them to teach them some redeeming lesson. Hopefully, you’re not one to those people.

If you believe that healing from God is not for us today, you’ll never be able to partake of His healing power in your life. Even those who don’t believe that healing is for us today will shoot up a prayer to ask God for healing! Isn’t that a little bit hypocritical?

Getting back to what you believe, it is important to believe the truth of God’s Word so that you can partake of His promises. But, all that being said, you still have to believe by faith, trusting that what God has said in His Word is true and then acting on it in faith. That’s when you see manifestations of His promises come to fruition in your life!

It’s Later than It’s Ever Been!

No matter who you ask, the consensus of opinion is that time is flying by. When we get to July, we wonder where the first half of the year went and before you know it, it’s Christmas, New Year’s Day, and we start all over.

So, why does it seem that things go by so fast? Is it just that we’re older and we see things differently than when we were young? These might all be a factor but the real truth is that, yes, time has actually speeded up and we are definitely headed toward the end of this age!

Even the unsaved can sense that the end is near. But we, as Christians, know it is. God said it in His Word and you can take that to the bank (Mark 13:7-9)!

So, knowing all this, what are we to do about it? Let’s check with God and what He has to say. In I Thessalonians 4:18, we are told to comfort one another with the fact that Jesus is coming soon. Yay! But hasn’t that been preached for 2000 years? Yes, it has, but you need to see what soon means on God’s time table.

II Peter 5:8 we see that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. Therefore, 2000 years in God’s timing is only two days and two days is soon, no matter how you look at it.

In Luke 19:13 Jesus tells us to occupy ’til He comes back for us. But just what does this mean? It doesn’t mean that we are to be busy, busy, busy! Occupy means that we are to take the dominion that God has given us and overcome the evil in this world (Genesis 1:26, 28). Jesus is waiting for His enemies to be made His footstool (Matthew 22:44) and our part is to take our authority and overcome Satan, his cohorts, and his evil workings (Mark 16:17; Luke 10:19).

No matter how you look at it, time is short and we have a limited time to get things done and fulfill the plans God has for our lives. Let’s go for it! Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!

Psalm 90:12 (KJV) 12  So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

The Word Became Flesh

John 1:14 (KJV) 14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Luke 1:38a (KJV) 38  And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.
Luke 1:30-31 (KJV) 30  And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31  And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

One of the basic tenets of the Christian faith is the Virgin Birth of Jesus. Without that, we’d still be in our sins because Jesus would have been born in sin just like the entire human race.

Biologically, the seed is not of the woman but of the man. But Jesus was not conceived biologically the way we were. His conception was supernatural by the power of the Holy Spirit overshadowing Mary and that Seed was God –  not man. Therefore, Jesus was not conceived in sin (the original sin of Adam).

So, just how did this happen? It was supernatural and sometimes trying to explain supernatural things by natural means can seem hard to understand. But let’s open our hearts to receive the truth of God’s Word and believe for an impartation of understanding.

Going back to the scripture in Luke 1:38, we see that what the angel had spoken to Mary in Luke 1:30-31, she accepted and received that Word regarding the birth of Jesus for she said, “Be it unto me according to thy Word.” She received the Word spoken by the angel that she would conceive by the Spirit of God and would bear a Son — Jesus.

You see, it was the Word of God – the living Word of God that she received. And that “Living Word” became flesh when she received It!

Now, as miraculous as the birth of Jesus was, I submit to you that the New Birth (when you got born again) is just as supernatural. When you got born-again, you went from death to life. Your spirit – the real you – came alive to God! Praise the Lord of Glory!

Now fasten your seat belts because here is another thing that will absolutely stop the parade and cause you to want to shout from the roof top: When you take the promises of God from His Word, believe and receive them into your spirit, they will become flesh to you the same way the Word concerning Jesus’ birth became flesh to Mary when she conceived it in her spirit. Praise the Lord!

That’s what Jesus said in Mark 11:23-24. If you say (speak the promise), doubt not in your heart, believe what you’ve said (confessed), you shall have whatsoever you have said – the promise of God! And even though the promises belong to us, they’re only activated by what Mark 11:23-24 tells us to do.

You see, it all works the same way – say, doubt not, believe, and receive. Believe that you receive when you pray, not when the manifestation comes. That’s what Mary did. She believed the Word, received it, and got the manifestation of Jesus – our Lord and Savior.

We have so much to be eternally grateful for and will spend all eternity with our Lord Jesus because of what He has done for us!

Hebrews 4:12 (AMP) 12  For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

We’re in Two Places at the Same Time!

Ephesians 1:20-23 (KJV) 20  Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21  Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
22  And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23  Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

Colossians 1:19 (KJV) 19  For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

Colossians 2:9-10 (KJV) 9  For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

10  And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

From the above passages, we see that Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father, far above all principality, power, might, dominion, and every name that is named! But that’s not all – God has put all things under Jesus’ feet and He is the Head of the Church, which is us. Now comes the good part—

Ephesians 2:6 (KJV) 6  And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

1 John 4:13 (KJV) 13  Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
1 John 5:20 (KJV) 20  And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

The good part is that we are in Jesus and in Him dwells all the fullness of the godhead bodily. That means that we are seated with Him in heavenly places, far above all principality, power, might, dominion. We’re in two places at the same time!

That’s awesome because we don’t have to fear the devil anymore since we are in Jesus. We have power and authority over all of the enemy’s evil works! That’s so encouraging and freeing! But – and I mean BUT – we have to take our authority in faith and stand against Satan. He’s a defeated foe but ignorance of that fact will keep you in bondage.

So, you see, since we are in Jesus, and He is seated in Heavenly places, we too are seated with Him in heavenly places. That’s a really good perspective to view things from! We want to soar with the eagles, not grovel on the ground in the muck and mire.

Keep that heavenly perspective and you will avoid all kinds of anxiety.

Are You So Full of Your Own Ways That There’s No Room for God?

What a day and age we live in! There’s the Me-Generation, the X-Generation, the Techie-Generation, Yippies, Yuppies, Twitters, Facebook friends, and the list goes on and on. Some of us can even remember the Flower-power generation! These are just a few of the groups that have identified themselves as entities unto themselves. And, to make matters worse, each group has their own language, especially the texters with all their abbreviations and emojis.

It seems that we are a people so busy doing our own thing, it’s a wonder that we ever get answered prayer when we don’t spend any time with the King of Kings! Oh, sure, we shoot up a prayer when things get tough because it makes us feel better. But do we really expect an answer?

We make decisions based on our own limited knowledge and research when, in fact, going to God and seeking His wisdom about the situation would save a lot of heartache in the end. Why is it that we think we’re so smart and don’t need God in our lives 24/7? One small “church” meal once a week is just not enough. One “Promise Box” scripture as you’re running out the door to go to work is just not enough. We need to spend time with God because He is God! Getting saved is not the end; it’s the beginning!

Instead of being totally filled with the ways of the world – sports, hobbies, work, and entertainment, we need to fill up on God. The Word tells us to be filled with the Holy Spirit, filled with joy and peace, filled with comfort, filled with the fruits of righteousness, filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and understanding, and filled with all the fullness of God! What a way to live!

To be filled means to make replete – filled to satiation; imbue – to permeate. These definitions tell us that if we are filled with all the above, we would really be on fire for God. Wow! What a day that will be but it takes effort to keep our minds fixed on the things of God because the world is screaming at us from every direction, even in the stores in which we shop! That ungodly music can drive us to never want to go back there again!

How can you know if you’re filled with God? Here’s a test: When a situation arises, what’s the first thing that comes out of your mouth? If it’s the Word of God, good. That’s what it should be. But if it’s anything else… I think you get the point.

God’s Word is the only sure thing we have in this world and if it’s not in us, it won’t do us any good. Remember, faith in God comes by hearing and hearing and hearing God’s Word so that it gets down into your spirit. Then when a crisis arises, that’s what will come out with power!

Romans 10:17 (KJV) 17  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Romans 15:13 (KJV) 13  Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. 14

Ephesians 3:19 (KJV) 19  And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Ephesians 5:18 (KJV) 18  And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Colossians 1:9 (KJV) 9  For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

Are You a Victim of Identity Theft?

Just what is identity theft? It’s when someone steals your true identity and robs you of who you are and even tries to impersonate you.

Has the devil stolen your identity? Are you a victim, not knowing who you really are? Let’s change that.

First of all, you’re not a nobody or a nothing! The devil might have told you that you’ll never amount to much, that things never work out for you, and even that you’re a loser. But these are all lies from the father of lies – the devil himself. To even say that, is to bring reproach upon your Creator.

Jesus purchased you with a redemption that is worth the whole world. Whatever He is and has, you have because in Him dwells the fullness of the God-head bodily. And the good news is that you’re in Him if you’ve been born-again! In other words, your true identity is in the Lord Jesus. Praise the Lord of glory!

Let’s look at what is actually in us. (The confirming scriptures are at the end of this message.)

1 – In Ephesians we see that we are blessed with every spiritual in Heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

2 – We were chosen before the foundation of the world.

3 – We have been adopted into the kingdom of God.

4 – Favor and mercy have been bestowed on us.

5 – We have been redeemed from sin, sickness, and spiritual death.

6 – We have been delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of the Son of God’s Love – the Lord Jesus.

7 – We have salvation through the Blood of Jesus.

8 – We have been chosen of God, even before we were born.

9 – We have been sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.

10 – We are the Body of the Lord Jesus on earth and in Him dwells the fullness of the God-head bodily. Therefore, the fullness dwells in us by the Holy Spirit.

11 – And because we are in Jesus, Who is made unto us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, we are righteous in the eyes of God and set apart for His glory!

These verses show you who you are in Jesus. You are powerhouse going somewhere to be a blessing to all those around you! Meditate on these attributes and you will annihilate depression, inferiority, and intimidation!

Ephesians 1:3-7 (KJV) 3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:4  According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5  Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6  To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7  In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Colossians 1:13 (KJV) 13  Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Ephesians 1:11 (KJV) 11  In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

Ephesians 1:13 (KJV) 13  In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Ephesians 1:22-23 (KJV) 22  And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,23  Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

1 Corinthians 1:30 (KJV) 30  But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Are You Enjoying a Life Worth Living?

My observation has been that many times people get saved and then go about their lives as usual – saved and stuck! Some even study the Word for a while but when there’s a crisis and their prayers don’t get answered, they lose heart and quit. That’s because they’re not grounded in the Word and the Word isn’t first place in their lives – the benchmark – for all they do. This is not a pretty picture.

Sadly, many Christians go about their daily lives and only shoot up a desperate prayer when there’s a problem. But that doesn’t get the manifestation. Their relationship with God is similar to their relationship with the doctor. They only go to see him when there’s a problem! That’s not how it’s supposed to be with our Heavenly Father.

Oh, how far short are these attitudes from what our Father actually intends for us! He says we’re the head and not the tail, above and not beneath. He says that He always causes us to triumph in Christ Jesus and everything we set our hands to prospers! What more could we want!

God has so graciously given us all things that pertain to life and godliness and all His divine promises are ours. What problem could we possibly have that God has not already provided the solution? We have it made, but with no revelation of the Word, we don’t know what’s been freely given to us.

That’s why it behooves us to make a firm commitment to get into the Word so the Word can get into us! We have to put forth effort because it takes effort to make a firm commitment to God’s Word and make it the “bottom line” for all we do. But, dear ones, it’s worth every moment and the rewards are endless! That’s what’s called a life worth living!

Deuteronomy 28:8 (KJV) 8  The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

Deuteronomy 28:12-13 (KJV) 12  The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.13  And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

2 Corinthians 2:14 (KJV) 14  Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

2 Peter 1:3-4 (KJV) 3  According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:4  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
