Job 1:1 (KJV) ¹  There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

Job 3:25 (KJV) ²⁵  For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

Job had a reverential fear of God and hated evil. But he opened the door to fear and destruction came in. The enemy, the devil, took advantage of Job’s fear and walked right in, taking everything he could. Job was devastated but kept his eyes on the Lord, did what He told him to do, and God restored to him twice as much as was lost and stolen.

Fear is a destroyer! It’s of the devil and if you open the door he’ll move right in and take everything he can. Don’t let this happen. Resist him!

As I’ve said, fear is not from God because there’s no fear in Him. God has not given us a spirit of fear. [II Timothy 1:7] Fear is an attribute of the devil who’s always trying to put his evil ways on you. If he can get your faith, he can keep you from the promises of God because the promises are only accessed through faith. You have a choice. You are the one who chooses faith or fear. And you do this by ignorance, sin, or unbelief. Choose faith!

Romans 8:15 (KJV) ¹⁵  For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Fear will put you in bondage to the thing you’re fearful of. In fact, it can actually paralyze you to the point that you can’t think rationally. I’ve seen this happen and it’s not a pretty picture.

Did you know that when you fear something, you actually draw that thing to you? Take spiders for example. People who are afraid of spiders, seem to see them all around. Hm-m-m?

The devil knows how to push your buttons. You need to cast out that fear in the Name of Jesus and speak God’s Word that no weapon formed against you shall prosper. [Isaiah 54:17]

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV) ⁷  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
1 John 4:18 (KJV) ¹⁸  There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

As you can see, fear is not from God. It’s from the devil, the enemy of God’s people. He’s out to steal, kill, and destroy and the battlefield is in our minds. That’s why we are to renew our minds to God’s Word and cast down imaginations and thoughts that come against us from the enemy.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV)⁵  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

We are not to entertain fear, doubt, and unbelief. We are to take immediate action against these things before they take root. The longer you dwell on the negative things, the more of a foothold the devil gets and then you really have a problem. And like Barney Fife says, “Nip it, nip it, nip it!”

Worry is fear and it will paralyze your faith! The amount of operative faith in you is directly proportional to the amount of worry: lots of worry = little faith. Worry is deadly because it is fear-based and it will negate and cancel your faith because it means you’re not trusting God.

So what do you do about worry? You stop feeding it with negative thoughts and replace it with the promises of God. Bind the worry thoughts and command them to leave in the Name of Jesus. You can’t worry about the problem and meditate on the promises of God at the same time. Starve the worry and feed your faith!

Every thought that comes to our minds is not from God. So how do we know which ones are from God and which are from the enemy? The key is to recognize whether or not they line up with God’s Word. Do they agree with what God has said in His Word or are they filled with fear, doubt, and unbelief?

As I’ve said many times, the way you know this is by getting God’s Word into you so that you can discern the truth.

2 Corinthians 4:13 (KJV) ¹³   We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV) ⁷  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

As we’ve talked about in past posts, faith is a spirit and fear is a spirit. Even though you see evidences of them in the physical realm, they are spiritual at their core so they have to be dealt with on a spiritual playing field.

Faith, in its simplest definition, is trusting God and His Word. It means that we trust that God said what He means and means what He said and that He will do what He said. That’s God’s part. Our part is to believe and trust Him with our whole heart.

Fear, on the other hand, means believing what the devil has said and acting on it.

Faith draws God’s promises to us. Fear draws to us the very thing that we’re afraid of.

Faith gives us access to God and His promises. Fear gives the devil an opening to steal, kill and destroy us. [John 10:10]

As you can see, faith and fear are diametrically opposed to each other. But the good news is that we are the ones who choose which way we’ll go: the faith path or the fear path.

Faith and fear are both voice activated. When you say it, you own it. That means we should keep our mouths shut until we can trust what will come out because what you say over and over will eventually get down into your spirit and if it’s not faith, there will be trouble.

Having said all this as a refresher, let’s continue.

Amos 3:3 (KJV) ³  Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

When we’re standing on God’s Word, we’re walking with God because we’re believing what He said. It’s the same with fear and talking the words of the enemy: doubt, unbelief, dread, depression, anxiety, etc. The trouble with talking and walking in fear is that it will short-circuit and negate your faith causing it to be inoperative. And it opens the door for the enemy to come right in and clobber you!

You can’t waver back and forth between faith and fear and expect your desired results. That’s what I call the “rocking chair syndrome,” –you’re moving but not getting anywhere. You’re trying to believe but the fear is blocking your faith and negating it. Fear needs to be dealt with, not shoved under the carpet hoping it goes away. We’ll get into this.

James 1:22 (KJV) ²²  But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
James 1:25 (KJV) ²⁵  But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

The Word of God tells us to be doers of the Word and not hearers only. Too many times that is not what we do. We read a scripture and get all excited about it but then we go about our daily lives and forget what God has said. That’s not being a doer of the Word.

If you read that you have authority over all the works of the enemy and then go about your daily life complaining that the devil is harassing you, where is your corresponding action? Where is the authority that God has given you? It’s still there but you’re not taking advantage of it and you’re letting the devil beat you up. Your corresponding action would be to rebuke the devil and his evil cohorts in the Name of Jesus and take back what he’s trying to steal from you.

If you read that if you give it will be given unto you and then go and write a rubber check expecting the money to plop itself into your bank account, that’s not corresponding action. That’s foolishness and really stupid. (People have actually done that!)

Your corresponding action would be to continue to stand on Luke 6:38 and expect manifestation of that scripture before you actually write the check.

And what about healing? Do you really believe that Jesus paid for your sicknesses at the same time He paid for your sins? Many of you would say you believe that but when you get sick is your first response, “What does God’s Word say?” or do you automatically pop a pill and, as an afterthought, maybe take authority over the sickness?

Brothers and sisters, walking by faith and not by sight takes time and effort. Mountain-moving faith doesn’t happen overnight. We have to develop our faith by getting into God’s Word and letting it get into us so that we are filled with His faith to overflowing. Then when we confess what He has said, it will come to pass.

What you look at gets in you. That’s why we must constantly feed on God’s Word so that it gets in us in abundance and comes out with dunamis power to effect a change in our circumstances.

Let’s look at some scriptures.

Matthew 6:22-23 (KJV) ²²  The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
²³  But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

Light is revelation of God’s Word. If you’re not walking in His light, the only other thing out there is darkness and that’s not where you want to walk.

Psalm 119:105 (KJV) ¹⁰⁵ Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

His Word will light our path but if we’re not walking in His Word, then we will be walking in darkness and that’s a very dangerous place to be.

God’s Word is revelation knowledge from the throne of God. It’s how He thinks and what’s in His heart. His Word gives light to your whole spirit, soul, and body. If you refuse to believe God’s Word, then you’re walking in darkness and any truth that you might have shall be taken away, dispelled by the unbelief.

Matthew 13:11-12 (KJV)
¹¹  He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
¹²  For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

It’s vitally important what we focus on and look at continuously. We will believe what our eyes see.  If we continuously look at the evil in the world, that’s what will get into hearts and that’s what we’ll believe. Who wants all that junk?

But if we focus on the Word of God and what He says and feed that into our hearts, then that’s what we’ll believe and that’s what we’ll speak. When that happens, we are set up to see miracles right before our eyes!

Remember not to base your corresponding actions on other people’s faith experience. You don’t know their level of faith or what God told them to do. If you try to copy what they did just because it worked for them, it could cause trouble and hinder you from getting what God has for you. Correctly assessing your level of faith will help you avoid faith disasters. Always follow the leading of the Holy Spirit!

Negative confessions, as I’ve said many times, only serve to establish the wrong things in your life. Stay on God’s Word and see the manifestation of what you desire.

Romans 4:17b (KJV) ¹⁷  …  and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

Mark 11:23-24 (KJV)
²³  For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
²⁴  Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

When we call things that are not as though they were, it is referring to things that are not yet manifested or seen in the physical realm. It’s not things that don’t exist. It’s just that they’re in the spiritual realm.

We have to continuously speak forth the solution we want, not what we have. What we have is already here so why are we still establishing it and calling it into manifestation? We need to get our faith-filled words out there to do what they are meant to do.

Faith with corresponding action means that we are to act on our faith, not just idly sit by and wait for something to happen. Of course, we must seek the Lord as to what it is we are to do and then be obedient to do it. We must always follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and then move in faith.

Stay focused on the solution not the problem. Your actions follow what you’re looking at. If you’re looking at the solution of God’s Word, then your actions will follow. But if all you see is the problem, that’s all you’ll get. This takes “on purpose action” to look at the right thing.

Sometimes corresponding action means standing on the Word that you have confessed and not quitting or giving up no matter what. But let me caution you not to do foolish things that God has not led you to do. If you’re on meds, keep taking your meds until you and your doctor say you can quit. Taking medication won’t stop you from receiving healing, but it can keep you alive until your healing manifests.

James 2:17 (AMP) ¹⁷  So also faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead).

James says that faith without works is dead. He’s not talking about works that try to get God to move on your behalf but rather works that are a result of what’s really in your heart and what you say you believe.

For example, if you’re believing for healing, don’t keep telling everyone how sick you are. That will negate your faith and you have to start all over. If you’re really in faith, you’ll speak it forth and say that healing is yours and you’re in recovery after you pray in the Name of Jesus, commanding the sickness to leave, and calling for the healing to manifest in your body.

Mark 16:18b (KJV) ¹⁸  … they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Remember, you have to see yourself healed even when you’re still battling the sickness. You have to call for things that you want, not what you have. That’s faith.

Of course, this is all contingent upon knowing what God has already said about your problem in His Word. Remember, your faith won’t rise higher than your knowledge of God’s Word and your confession of that Word.

If you’re in need of finances, don’t keep confessing that you don’t have enough or that you’re always broke. Go to God’s Word and find out what He has already said about giving and it shall be given to you.

Luke 6:38 (KJV) ³⁸  Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Did you ever notice that your actions follow your words? We almost always express what we’re going to do before we do it. Think about that! We get an idea and then we talk about it – usually to ourselves at first and then to others.

James says that even though we say we have faith, if our actions don’t go along with what we are saying, then our faith is dead. And who wants dead faith!

Just as confession is the voice of your faith, actions are the proof of your faith. Faith is an action word but just what does that mean? Let me use love as an example.

If you say you love someone but your actions don’t show it, then why would that person believe you? Anyone can say, “I love you” but do they really mean it and how would you know? You would know by their actions and how they treat you.

It’s the same with faith. If you’re standing in faith for something, it will be evident in how you act. That bulldog tenacity will show!

There’s so much lying going on in this world that it’s a wonder we believe anything people say! It seems that many people will lie at the drop of a hat and think nothing of it. Why? Most likely because they really don’t value their words and therefore are not people of their word. They’re not reliable and can’t be counted on to follow through with what they say. I think we all know people like that.

And so it is with faith. Anyone can say they have faith but faith for what? Faith to get saved? Faith for healing? Faith for provision? Faith for what? If your actions don’t demonstrate your faith, then you don’t have operative faith. You have dead faith! And that’s not good!

1 John 5:4 (KJV) ⁴  For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Romans 12:3b (KJV) ³  …  according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Those that have been born-again have overcoming faith residing in them but how do you draw it out? Simply by doing what I’ve been teaching. You have to be persuaded that the faith of God that you received at the New Birth actually resides in you. Then you have to feed it and exercise it to develop it.

When you have done that, you can use your faith and see results. However, as I’ve said so many times, all this takes time and effort and many people are not willing to put forth the time and effort to develop their faith so they keep running to others who have put in the time and “bootleg” their faith to get answers to their situations.

Now I’m not talking about baby Christians and young Christians who are just starting out. They need to hook up with older mature Christians to get in agreement with them and help them get their prayers answered. This will boost their faith when they get their desired results. But those that have been born-again for some period of time but have neglected to develop their faith need to repent and get back on track.

Regarding overcoming faith, let’s talk about what it is that you are to overcome. Any attack of the devil is a prime example for something to overcome. That means anything that comes against you: fear, failure, depression, anxiety, debt, sickness, etc., you can overcome! If God says we’re more than conquerors and that we can overcome, then that’s what we are well able to do. We can’t just fold up and let the devil and his evil cohorts run rampant over us and then make us think we’re being so humble. Hogwash!

Romans 8:37 (KJV) ³⁷  Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

What does it mean to be “more” than a conqueror? It means that the victory is already yours before the battle even begins! But you still have your part to do and that’s to fight the good fight of faith by continuing in God’s Word that will deliver you through faith in His Word.

Matthew 7:7-8 (KJV) ⁷  Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
⁸  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

God said that if you’ll ask, it shall be given. If you seek, you’ll find. If you knock it will be opened to you. But some might say they did ask but it wasn’t given. Here’s where you need to know the other scriptures:

James 1:6-8 (KJV) ⁶  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
⁷  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
⁸  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

James 4:3 (KJV) ³  Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

As I have been saying all along, everything we do must be done in faith. If you’re praying for something that’s not in line with God’s Word, don’t expect the answer because you can’t pray in faith if it doesn’t line up with God’s Word. And, as we’ve already discussed, you can’t pray in faith if you don’t know what God’s will is in that situation.

Likewise, if you start out in faith according to God’s Word but you get weary and start wavering and vacillating in your stand, don’t expect the answer. You have negated your faith-filled prayers. You have to have bulldog faith and determine not to give up or quit if you want to see your desired results!
