Words are not just to communicate. Words are to effect change in the circumstances of life. We are the ones who are to have dominion over this earth. [Genesis 1:26, 28] The way we’re to have dominion is by our words. That’s why it’s imperative that we watch every word that comes out of our mouths. What? Every Word? Yes, every word!

Not only are we to pray the right words, but we are to speak the right words all day long, 24/7! Wow – that’s a tall order! Yes it is but it’s do-able or God would not require us to do it. The more you practice watching your words, the easier it gets. We have to mean what we say and say what we mean. Otherwise we confuse our spirit.

John 15:7 (KJV) ⁷  If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
1 John 5:14 (KJV) ¹⁴  And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

Jesus tells us to abide in His Word. That means that we are to live in His Word, not just visit when we have a problem. His Word has to be the “go to” in everything we do. And He says that if we indeed abide in His Word and His Word is resident in us, then what we ask He will do because we’re asking according to what He has already said and given! Wow! It doesn’t get any better than that. Talk about living a confident, victorious life in the Lord!

Yes, that’s what we should continuously be doing so that the unsaved will sit up and notice that we’re different than they are and they’ll want what we have. That’s when we can tell them about our Jesus.

Matthew 12:36-37 (KJV) ³⁶  But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
³⁷  For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

This is a powerful scripture because it shows that idle words should never come out of our mouths. Idle words are non-productive words. They’re words that don’t produce any good thing. And this is where many people miss it. Just rambling on and on and venting and venting can cause you to say many things that you really don’t mean. It can also open the door for the devil to move right in a cause those “idle” words to come to pass. This is not good because you’re the one who is actually defeating yourself with idle words.

That’s why we must speak in line with what God has said and then we can see our desired results.

Did you know that your words get to your future before you do? Why is that? Because when we speak words, they go forth to accomplish what they’re intended to. This can be for good or for evil, depending on the words spoken. They become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Let me explain.

Take children for example. If good, uplifting words are spoken over them throughout their lives, they will most likely succeed at what they’ve been “conditioned” to do. But if negative, debasing words are spoken over them throughout their lives, guess how they’ll turn out! Yet, they still have a free will but negative words only make it harder on them.

It can work the same way in the workplace. If your boss speaks uplifting, encouraging words over you, it really does make a difference in your work output. Sadly, the reverse is also true.

So what do we do? Do we vent or do we keep our mouths shut until we can trust what will come out? I think you know that answer.

Matthew 12:34b (KJV) ³⁴  …  for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Psalm 141:3 (MSG) ³  Post a guard at my mouth, GOD, set a watch at the door of my lips.

Words are containers – carrying good or carrying evil and they really do affect our future and destiny.  And just as God’s Words did exactly what He sent them to do, so will our words, whether for good or for evil. We need to get our words lined up with what God has said and watch the supernatural take place.

And just for clarification, when you speak negative words, it opens the door for the devil to come right in and cause havoc in your life.

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV) ¹¹  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Every Word God has said, has or will come to pass because His Words are filled with His faith. When God saw the darkness, He didn’t say, “Oh my how dark it is!” No, He called for the thing He wanted, namely light and light became! That’s what He intends for us to do with our words because we’re made in His image and we are to be followers of our Heavenly Father as dear children. We’re to do the same things that He does and that involves speaking to things to cause change.

We’ve been discussing why confession of God’s Word is so important. Let’s look at another scripture:

Acts 17:28a (KJV) ²⁸  For in him we live, and move, and have our being; 

This scripture is referring to Jesus, in whom we live and move and have our being. And as you know, Jesus is the Word of God. So we can say that in the Word we live and move and have our being. That certainly sheds a different light on the importance of our words.

We need to take God’s Word seriously and at the same time, take our words seriously. We need to constantly be aware of the words that are coming out of our mouths. Do we really want those words to come to pass in our lives? Remember, the angels are listening to every word we speak and that’s their cue to move or remain inactive. It’s really up to us.

Matthew 12:34b (KJV) ³⁴  …  for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Whatever is in your heart in abundance will eventually come out, whether or not you like it or actually mean it. That’s why it’s so important to keep your mouth shut until you can trust what will come out.

So how do our words affect our faith? Simply, that your faith won’t work if you’re not speaking in line with God’s Word.

Hebrews 4:12a (AMP) ¹²  For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; 

God’s Word is awesome! It’s our life and we need it so we can be all that God has ordained for us to be. We need to walk by faith and not by sight if we’re ever going to be mountain-movers and tree-uprooters! We do this by speaking God’s Word and releasing His power into the situation. Remember, faith is voice activated.

Another reason confession of God’s Word works is because it keeps you focused on the solution and the result rather than the problem. Dwelling on and speaking the problem only establishes and confirms the problem. It doesn’t get rid of it. Remember, death and life are in the power of your tongue. Speak life, not death. [Reading Proverbs will help you realize how powerful your words are.]

Complaining and griping about the problem is a no-no! Not only does it establish the problem but it gives the devil access to you because you’re speaking his negative words. This is eye-opening when you recognize how powerful your words really are.

Another reason confession works is that it helps renew your mind to think the way God thinks.

Romans 12:2a (KJV) ²  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, 

When you get saved, your spirit gets born-gain, not your mind. You still think the same way as you did before you got saved but now you have to renew your mind to think God’s thoughts instead of the world’s way of thinking. This doesn’t happen by accident.

You are the one who has to hear, study, and meditate the Word to get it into you. No one can do it for you. If you don’t do it, it won’t get done and you won’t be any better off than your unsaved neighbors except that you will be going to Heaven but you’ll be living a defeated life and you won’t have victory on this earth.

So get into God’s Word and hear, study, and meditate until you can open your mouth and speak forth the dunamis power of God!

Continuing on why confession of God’s Word works:

The first words that come out of your mouth in a time of crisis are extremely important, to the point of life or death. I have seen this happen and it’s not pretty! That’s why you absolutely must get God’s Word in your heart in abundance so that it’s available when you need it.

Remember, your faith will not rise higher than the confession of God’s Word coming out of your mouth. That means you can’t pray beyond your knowledge of the Word because that’s where faith is and that’s where your faith needs to be – in God’s Word.

So, why does confession work? Confession is the voice of your faith and it works because you’re speaking God’s Word and His Word is truth! Faith is voice activated and to activate it you must speak it. That’s what confession is – speaking God’s Word.

Romans 10:17 (KJV)
¹⁷  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

When you hear God’s anointed Word, faith comes. And it comes quicker when you speak it out of your mouth because you believe yourself quicker than you believe other people. That’s why it’s important that you speak forth the promises that you’re standing on so that you can hear yourself speaking God’s Word and it can get into your heart in abundance and marinate.

You don’t get mountain-moving faith by confessing the Word one time or even ten times or thirty times. It doesn’t happen overnight but if you’ll stick with it, faith will come. It has to become a lifestyle. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. 

Too many times people hear a faith message and think they’re a faith giant! This takes time and effort – lots of time and lots of effort but it’s all worth it when you actually do become a faith giant, able to move mountains!

So let’s talk about why confession of God’s Word works and why we must do it if we want to see our desired results.

Hebrews 3:1 (KJV)
¹  Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

Jesus is the Apostle and High Priest of our confession – what we say. He wants to work with us to cause His Word to come to pass in our lives but we have to give Him something to work with. He does not act independently of us.

If we only speak negative words, He can’t work with those words. We have to cooperate with Him. That means we have to speak the same Words that God has already spoken in His Word if we want Jesus to move on them to get us our results. He will not work contrary to His Word.

What’s so important about words? Words are containers. They contain good or evil, life or death. When you speak faith-filled words, those words go out and seek to change the circumstances.

Proverbs 18:21a (KJV) ²¹  Death and life are in the power of the tongue:  

Jeremiah 1:12 (AMP) ¹²  Then said the Lord to me, You have seen well, for I am alert and active, watching over My word to perform it.

God is constantly watching over his Word to cause it to come to pass but He must have someone speak forth those Words in faith.

Matthew 12:34b (KJV) ³⁴  … for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

You see, whatever is in your heart will eventually come out. The problem is that you don’t want the wrong things coming out in a crisis. You have to learn to be a person of your word. Say what you mean and mean what you say. That’s why we can trust God’s Word because He said what He meant and meant what He said. And all of heaven stands behind His Word.

Confession of God’s Word means to say the same thing that God says. But how do we do that? By speaking what He’s already said in His Word.

We are told to be followers of God – to imitate Him in His ways.

Ephesians 5:1 (KJV) ¹  Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

Ephesians 5:1 (AMP) ¹  THEREFORE BE imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father].

Paul even tells us to follow him as he follows the Lord.

1 Corinthians 11:1 (KJV) ¹  Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

You see, Jesus is the Pattern Son and He is the One we are to emulate. So what did He do that we are to do? He only said and did what He saw His Father say and do!

John 5:19 (KJV) ¹⁹  Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
John 8:38a (KJV) ³⁸  I speak that which I have seen with my Father:  

If He wanted healing, He spoke to the problem and told it to go. That’s what we’re to do. We are not to ask God to do it because He has told us to lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. [Mark16:18; Matthew 10:8]

Of course this has to be done in faith. If you don’t know that it’s God’s will to heal every time, then you can’t pray the prayer of faith in faith. God’s Word is His will and His will is to heal every time!

Continuing on calling things that are not as though they were…

Romans 4:17 (KJV) ¹⁷  (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

1 Corinthians 1:28 (KJV) ²⁸  And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

We are to call things from the spirit realm into the physical realm to manifest or to bring to nothing things that are in the physical realm. We also put to nothing things that are in the physical realm by calling things from the spirit realm. Hold on while I explain further.

A good example of this is healing. When you’re battling a sickness or disease, constantly talking about it or saying my pain, my diabetes, my heart problem, actually establishes that problem. It doesn’t get rid of it because there’s no power in calling things that are already there.

Instead, we’re to speak forth the healing power of God by saying what He has already said in His Word. [I Peter 2:24; Isaiah 53:4-5; Mark 16:18] We’re to rebuke the sickness/disease in the Name of Jesus and call for the healing power of God to manifest. It’s really that simple but it absolutely must be done in faith. We call for the healing from the spirit realm into the physical realm to annihilate the sickness and disease and produce healing. Then stay in faith; don’t let negative words come out of your mouth to negate your faith. We’ll get into this more as time goes on.

You have to know that it’s God’s will for you to be healed or it’s impossible to pray for healing. And it works the same with other situations in your life. You must know what God’s will is in every situation or you cannot pray the prayer of faith.

James 1:5-7 (KJV) ⁵   If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
⁶  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
⁷  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

Whatever we need to know from God about His will, He will tell us but we have to stick with it. If we waver, vacillate, or waffle, our prayers won’t work. And His will is easy to know because His Word is His will. It’s not about what man has said or what your grandmother or uncle, aunt or even your pastor has said. It’s what God has said!

In fact, it’s not even about your experience or even someone else’s experience. It’s all about what our faithful God has said in His Word. I know I’ve said this many times but it’s important and can’t be stressed enough because most Christians aren’t doing this. And that’s why they’re not having success and getting their desired results. But all this can change!

We’ve been discussing how to use the God-kind of faith to effect change. That’s what happens when we’re up against a situation that, in the natural, there’s no way things can change. What are we to do? Beg God to intervene or use our faith to change the situation? [God never told us to beg!]

Remember, we have authority over our situation, not everyone else’s and for sure not other people. We cannot control what other people do but we can control how it affects us.

Let’s look at Romans 4:17:

Romans 4:17 (KJV) ¹⁷  (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

God told Abram that he would be a father of many nations but at that time he didn’t have the promised child – Isaac. He and Sarah were very old and past child-bearing years so this seemed impossible in the natural. And for all intents and purposes, it was. But God!

Yes, in the natural this was impossible but then God changed Abram’s name to Abraham which means the father of many nations. What Abraham and Sarah had was a Word from Almighty God and if they believed it and stood firm on what He had promised, it would come to pass, and they would indeed have the promised child. They did and they had.

Notice that God calls things that are not as though they were and so did Abraham.What does this mean? It means that Abraham called or spoke forth his faith to get what was not manifested in the natural realm to come forth from the spirit realm. His promise from God was in the spirit realm but he (Abraham) had to believe it with his faith to bring it into the natural, physical realm where it would manifest in the promised child, Isaac.

It was twenty-four years after God’s promise to Abraham that He changed His name. Until that time, nothing happened in the way of the promised child. But once God changed Abram’s name to Abraham, it was less than one year until Isaac was born. Why?

Remember, faith comes from hearing God’s Word. Everywhere Abraham went, people called him Abraham – father of nations. This is what he heard and this is what built faith in him to receive what God had promised. Nothing happened in the way of faith for the promised child until God changed his name and he heard what God had called him to be.

And, dear brothers and sisters, that’s what we’re to do. We’re to speak forth what we want, not what we have. There’s no power in saying what you have! That just establishes the problem. We are to call for what is not manifested in the physical realm to come forth from the spirit realm so that we can utilize it.

Now let’s fast forward to the New Testament.

Mark 11:23-24 (KJV) ²³  For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
²⁴  Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. [Bro. Hagin’s favorite scripture.]

If you’ve been a Christian for any length of time, you are probably familiar with this scripture because it’s such an awesome one and answers so many questions regarding faith.

Notice that saying is mentioned three times and believing once. This shows how important saying is. If you say the right thing, believing will be easy.

Moving right along…

In order for faith to work, it has to be in two places: in your mouth and in your heart.

Romans 10:8 (KJV)
⁸  But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

I want you to notice that in order for faith to work, it has to be in your mouth first and then in your heart. Why? Because that’s how I gets into your heart – by speaking it with your mouth. Remember, faith is voice activated. Faith is not a thought but a spoken word – God’s Word coming out of your mouth and addressing the situation.

And here’s a side tidbit: God doesn’t use His faith just to communicate but to effect change. His faith is meant to do something. That’s what our faith is to do. It’s not just communicating thoughts but effecting change in our circumstances.

God’s faith creates. If we use the God-kind of faith like God does, we too can create with His faith. It’s not us but God working through us to change our circumstances. However, He needs us to do our part and give Him access to the situation through our faith.

Where do you think godly inventions and innovative ideas come from? From the Holy Spirit working through believers who will tune into His frequency. George Washington Carver was one such man. For example, he would go into his lab and just wait on God, Who showed him over 300 innovative ways to use the peanut!

I believe, along with many others, that there are a lot more godly inventions still be discovered if we’ll just tune into God and let the Holy Spirit direct us. However, it not going to happen during TV commercials while we’re waiting for our favorite program to resume! We have to on purpose seek God’s ways and He will make them known to us. Then, as we step out in faith, He will continue to lead us to victory.
