We Live by the Word of God

Matthew 4:4 (KJV) 4  But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

1 Samuel 2:30b (KJV) 30  …  for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

When Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness, His response was, “It is written!” And then He quoted God’s Word. When He said that man doesn’t live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the the mouth of God, what did He mean? Let’s check it out.

John 1:1,14  (KJV) 1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
1 Peter 1:23 (KJV) 23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Here we see that Jesus is the Word of God. He is the incorruptible seed and therefore, His Word is incorruptible seed. When we make God’s Word our final authority, our benchmark, standing on what He has to say about any given situation, we can know that we’re on good ground. We can know that His Word will see us through because Jesus is the Word.

Too many Christians turn to the world’s way of doing things, the world’s solutions, instead of going to God first, to see what He has already said in His Word about their problem. Yes, the world has some answers that might work, but there is no assurance that they’ll always work or that they’ll always have a solution, as we know.

God has an excellent, impeccable track record. Not one Word of His has ever failed, nor will it ever fail. People will fail, but it’s never been God’s Word that failed.

1 Kings 8:56b (KJV) 56  …  there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.

As I’ve said before, faith is the access road to all the promises of God. Everything we do must be done in faith, according to His Word, if we want results that always work.

It’s not hard. It’s actually quite simple to hear God’s Word, believe it, and do it. He has made it so do-able that many have missed it because of its simplicity. Proud people want something complicated. That’s why the gospel is preached to the humble because they’ll receive it and it’ll work in their lives.

We must value God’s Word above all else. His Word has to be the final authority in our lives, no matter what. When it is, God will honor us and we’ll walk in  the victory that He has provided for us.

Job 23:12 (KJV) 12  Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
