Surely you’ve heard that the Bible is filled with God’s promises but did you ever think about how many there are? Well, hold onto you seatbelt: there are over 7000 promises of God in the Bible! Wow! How awesome is that!
Yes, there are all those promises to us but many of them are contingent upon us doing something on our part. And just for the record, there are over 600 commandments in the Bible! Perhaps you weren’t aware of this but it’s true, nonetheless. Many of the commandments are Old Testament Law commandments, but still, it’s an overwhelming number.
But getting back to God’s promises. Most of the promises have requirements to fulfill before you can partake of the promise. For example, too many times people are waiting for their ship to come in but they’ve never sent one out. God’s Word says that in order to receive, you have to give first.
Luke 6:38 (KJV) 38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
And then dealing with issues in your life. Too many times people want to “see” the answer before they believe and receive. But God says to believe you receive when you pray, and then you’ll see the results.
Mark 11:23-24 (KJV) 23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Actually, in verse 23 we are told to “speak” to the mountains – the issues, and then cast them into the sea. After that we are to believe we receive the answer before we see it and then we shall have it. It all seems so backwards from what the world says. But then again, most of what God does is opposite of the world’s ways.
And so it is with salvation. Even though God provided salvation for everyone through the Blood of Jesus, unless a person believes and accepts His free gift, they’re not saved.
Romans 10:9-10 (KJV) 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Search out God’s promises for what you need and you will find that He has everything covered. And even if you can’t find scripture and verse that exactly pertains to your situation, go to James and get wisdom from God.
James 1:5 (KJV) 5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Proverbs 2:6-7 (KJV) 6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
Proverbs 4:7 (KJV) 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
God isn’t hiding His wisdom from us. But we must search it out. It’s there – go get it and rejoice!
