Are Your Words Bringing Life or Death?

Too many times we end up in a place or predicament we never intended to be in. Then we sit there and wonder how on earth did this happen? Let me make some observations and suggestions.

First of all, nothing on planet earth happens by accident or by fate – which is not really a thing but an excuse for why something happened. Everything in our lives happens because something caused it to happen – whether on purpose or ignorantly.

So, let’s get to the nitty gritty of why we get ourselves in places or situations that we really don’t want to be: bad friendships, afflictions and persecutions, sickness and disease, bondages, etc. Yes, I understand these things are not what we want in our lives but somehow they happened to us. Why?

Let me say that most of the time the devil is behind the messes we find ourselves in but in order for that to happen, we have to have opened the door for him to do his dirty work. He cannot do anything to us without our consent or cooperation.

What? You say. Why would I ever let the devil come in beat my spiritual brains out? Well, you wouldn’t under normal circumstances, if you knew that what you were doing was giving him a foothold into your life.

And here, dear brothers and sisters, is the main reason you have opened the door to the devil’s evil schemes and wiles. It’s your words! Yes, that’s what I said – your words! Your words are so important because they direct your path and send you along the road to your destiny. But if your words are opposite to what God has said in His Word, then your words are opening the door for the devil to jump all over and wreak havoc in your life, leaving you standing there baffled about the results.

Now, I ask you, why do you think your words are of so much value? It’s because we are made in the image of God and everything God does is with the Words of His mouth and so it is with us. Everything He created was with His words and without His Words nothing was created. Remember that Jesus is the Word and by Him were all things created.

John 1:1-3 (KJV) 1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2  The same was in the beginning with God.
3  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Colossians 1:16-17 (KJV) 16  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17  And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Genesis 1:1-3 (KJV) 1  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3  And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Notice in the Genesis verses that nothing happened until God actually said something. Even though the Holy Spirit was hovering over the face of the earth, still nothing happened until God spoke. THEN the universe sprang into being! And that’s how is with us.

Proverbs 18:21 (KJV) 21  Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Notice that both death and life are in the power of the tongue. We have yet to realize how utterly powerful our words are. You see, when we speak, just like when God spoke, our words go forth carrying what’s in our hearts. They’re containers of good or evil, death or life. So it behooves us to put God’s Word in our hearts and to speak only positive words that line up with what God has said in His word.

Not only that, when we speak, the words that we say are going to produce good or evil. And what is amazing is that our spirit will try to produce whatever it is that we are saying because our spirit thinks that’s what we want.

But on the other hand, when we speak negative words, opposite to what God’s Word says, the devil is right there ready to accommodate us and cause those negative, fear-filled, unproductive words to come to pass. And that, dear friends is how we get ourselves into a heap of trouble without even realizing it.

So here’s my suggestion for you. As you go about your day, listen to what is coming out of your mouth and ask yourself if that’s really what you want to come to pass. If not, rebuke it, cancel it, and make the right confession. Also, listen to what others are saying and you’ll be surprised at how much negativity is out there spewing forth from other people. We need to guard our hearts and only put in what we want to come out!

Matthew 12:34b (KJV) 34  …  for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
Matthew 12:37 (KJV) 37  For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Mark 11:23-24 (KJV)
23  For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24  Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
