Are You Letting the Holy Spirit Teach You?

2 Timothy 2:15-16 (AMP) 15  Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth.
16  But avoid all empty (vain, useless, idle) talk, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness.

As you will notice in the opening scripture, we have to read and study the Word of God but – we also have to interpret it correctly. That’s called rightly dividing the Word of Truth. You see, it’s not just reading the Word, you also have to listen to the Holy Spirit as to what God is actually saying.

This is a paradigm shift for some of us who like to do word studies, using our concordances, dictionaries, and commentaries. Along with these tools, we must listen intently to the Holy Spirit’s leading into the Truth of God’s Word.

Studying God’s Word is different from studying other subject matter, where you basically read and learn what the author is saying. The reason for the difference is because God’s Word is spirit. It comes from the spirit realm because it comes from God, Who is a Spirit! And we need the Holy Spirit to help our interpretation.

John 4:24 (KJV)
24  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

This might seem like it’s a tall order but remember that the Holy Spirit is your Best Teacher and He will surely lead you the right way. Our part is to listen with our hearts and obey. It’s that simple.

But, first things first. You absolutely must get into God’s Word so that the Holy Spirit has something to lead you with. You can’t just make up things in your head and hope that God will go along with it.

His Word is awesome and we should pray that we have a love of His Word so that we can learn of Him and be all that He has ordained us to be. And then we can live a victorious life worth living on planet earth.

John 16:13 (KJV) 13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
John 14:16 (AMP) 16  And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever—
John 14:26 (KJV) 26  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

 In the Image of God

Genesis 1:26-27 (KJV) 26  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Notice that God created man in His own image which means that we look like Him, spiritually- on our spirit, [we are spirit beings in a flesh body] but we are also to act like Him. That means we are to act like He would act if He were here on planet earth. Which brings me to confession of God’s Word.

Confession of God’s Word simply means that we say the same thing that God says, hence His Word. But, why is it so important to confess God’s Word? Here’s the reason:

Since God created the heavens and the earth and everything in it, it behooves us to find out how He did it so we can use His methods when we’re dealing with problems and issues on earth. Remember, we’re made in His image and we’re supposed to act like Him. And here’s the key: He did it with Words, the Words of His mouth! Nothing came into being without God first speaking Words and calling into being things that didn’t exist. When He did that, those things He spoke manifested – showed up!

The classic example is found in Genesis:

Genesis 1:1-3 (KJV) 1  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3  And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Notice that darkness was upon the face of the deep but God didn’t say, “Oh My goodness – it’s so dark out there!” No, He spoke what He wanted. He wanted light so He said, “Light be!” And, as they say, the rest is history!

That’s what we’re to do in our situations. We are to speak God’s promises – His solutions – over the issues we’re confronted with, and expect His results.

Mark 11:23-24 (KJV)
23  For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24  Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

You see, dear brothers and sisters, God has already given us everything we’ll ever need on planet earth but those promises don’t just fall on us like ripe cherries off a tree. We have to call them into our lives by confessing His Word that promises them to us. It’s really quite simple but it does take effort – a lot of effort!

You see, our flesh – our five physical senses – wants to take the path of least resistance with little or no effort on our part. Well, that simply won’t wash and we won’t get God’s results that way. Plus we have to renew our minds to God’s Word so we think like Him.

Let’s purpose in our hearts to be doers of the Word and not hearers only. Let’s step out of the boat and do some water walking and get in on God’s way of doing things so that we can live the victorious life He has for us!

Luke 17:6 (KJV)
6  And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

Romans 4:17b (KJV) 17  …  even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

2 Corinthians 1:20 (KJV)
20  For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
2 Peter 1:3-4 (KJV) 3  According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Ephesians 4:23 (KJV)
23  And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

Do You Want More Zing in Your Life?

It seems that we all want more zing in our lives from time to time but how do we get it? Now don’t let your imagination run wild, I’m talking about getting it God’s way! That way we can enjoy it without feeling guilty.

Psalm 115:15 (KJV) 15  Ye are blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth.

The word blessed means empowered to prosper! That’s a blessing in itself!

Here we see that God has already blessed us with everything we could possibly need in this life but we don’t always recognize those blessings. So how do we jump start the blessings?

Proverbs 18:21 (KJV) 21  Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Colossians 4:6 (KJV) 6  Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

Almost everything we do is precipitated by the words of our mouths. We speak and then act. That’s where many go wrong. Their words are hanging them. What we need to do is to start speaking blessings over ourselves and our family. And since we are already blessed, we just have to jump right in the river and go with the flow: I have the best spouse in the world, the best children, the best friends, the best neighbors, the best employer, etc.

When you start making these confessions, you’re sowing seeds into your life and you will reap a harvest if you don’t quit or dig up your seed by speaking negatively.

This is a great way to live – salt your words with God’s Word and watch the changes it makes.

Romans 4:17b (KJV) 17  …  even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
Deuteronomy 28:1-14 (KJV)

God’s Divine Protection

Psalm 91:4b (KJV) 4  … his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Proverbs 30:5 (KJV) 5  Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
Psalm 18:30 (KJV) 30  As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

Buckler – comes from the Hebrew word that means surrounding a person; composed of wood or wickers woven together, covered with skin or leather, fortified with plates of brass or other metal and worn on the left arm. Often 4 feet long and covered the whole body. [Webster’s 1828 Dictionary]

Shield – also a buckler but most shields were made of leather; before battle they would soak the shields in water ’til they were wet enough to ward off the fiery darts that were shot at them. Those fiery arrows were made to explode upon contact but the wet shield snuffed them out. Remember, God’s Word is water.

As you see in Ps. 91, God’s truth is our buckler that surrounds us and protects us from the lies of the enemy. How do we know when we’re being lied to? By comparing it to the Truth. If we don’t know the truth, we have nothing to compare it to and open ourselves up to believing lies.

I don’t know if they still do this today, but years ago when people were being instructed on recognizing counterfeit money, they were trained by actually “handling” the real money over and over, so that when counterfeit money came along, they would easily recognize it.

That’s how it is with God’s Word. If His Word is the benchmark by which you measure everything that comes your way, then you can be confident that you’ll recognize the evil lies of the enemy. But if you don’t know His Word, you’re at a loss. That’s why I keep encouraging you to get into the Word and get the Word into you. That way you’re armed and ready!

John 8:31-32 (KJV)
31  Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Ephesians 5:26-27 (KJV) 26  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27  That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

How to Overcome Bad Behavior!

Colossians 3:17 (KJV) 17  And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Colossians 3:23 (KJV) 23  And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

At any point in time, each of us can have a bad thought that wants to propel us into bad actions. So what so we do to squelch those horrid thoughts and possible actions?

First of all, take authority over your thoughts. Rebuke them and command them to go in the Name of Jesus. Stand firm! You have the mind of Christ.

Philippians 2:5 (KJV) 5   Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
1 Corinthians 2:16 (KJV) 16  For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Remember, if you don’t speak those thoughts, they will die unborn. But once you speak them, they become seeds that you’re planting and able to produce a harvest that you really don’t want.

Notice in the opening scriptures that we are to do everything in the Name of Jesus. That in itself should quench all negative words and actions. Can you honestly fight with your spouse or children in the Name of Jesus? Of course not. If you think you can, you will have to override the promptings of the Holy Spirit who is trying to lead you in the right path.

Can you really gossip or speak negative things against someone in the Name of Jesus. I think not!

Let’s dwell on the good things and the myriad of blessings the Lord has so graciously bestowed on us and we’ll see the victory that we desire. God has given us all the tools. Our part is to use them!

Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
8  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Are You Hoping or Agreeing?

Matthew 18:19 (KJV)
19  Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

A common definition of hope is to want or desire something to be true. But that’s not the Bible definition which is confident expectation – being confident that what you want to happen will indeed happen

What I want to share with you today is that the world hopes – their definition- that this or that will come to pass. But what are they basing it on? Their ways and views. That’s the world but what about the Christians? What are they basing their HOPE on? If it’s not God’s Word, the foundation is shaky. God’s Word must always be the bottom line – the benchmark from which you measure everything.

Too many times when Christians pray, they “hope” God will answer with the perfect solution but do they really believe that or just hopin’ and prayin’?

So, what should we do? The first thing we need to do to get answered prayer is to agree with God and His Word. You see, as I say often, you can’t have faith in God beyond your knowledge of His Word. So you need to get into His Word and find out what He has already said about your situation and then get in agreement with Him. Then when you pray in faith according to that Word, it will work.

1 John 5:14-15 (KJV) 14  And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15  And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

1 John 5:14-15 (AMP) 14  And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us.
15  And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possessions] the requests made of Him.

Remember, God’s Word is His will.

Then there’s the prayer of agreement when you enlist the help of someone else – Matt. 18:19 – as we see in the opening scripture. The prayer of agreement is a powerful way to pray but the two of you have to be in agreement, not only when praying, but all during the time you’re waiting for the manifestation of the answer.

To find a prayer partner who will pray in agreement with you and stay in agreement is a rare find. Consider yourself extremely blessed when you find someone like that!

Praying in agreement with God’s Word is so comforting and empowering because it’s His Word and He can’t lie about His promises. What He has declared, He is able to perform and cause it to come to pass.

2 Corinthians 1:20 (KJV)
20  For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Numbers 23:19 (KJV) 19  God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Malachi 3:6a (KJV) 6  For I am the LORD, I change not;
James 1:17 (KJV) 17  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

However, you don’t need to only pray with a partner, you can pray by yourself and get in agreement with God and He will honor your faith-filled prayers! Go for it!

Prayer or God’s Word!

So what’s the big deal about quoting and confessing God’s Word? Why can’t I just shoot up an SOS to God and expect an answer? Glad you asked. Read on.

As I have observed Christians over the years, I have noticed that many of them just shoot up a prayer – even a begging prayer – and hope it sticks. If it works, great; if not, so be it. In fact, they probably don’t even expect their prayers to be answered!

So what’s the problem? The probably is that they probably love the Lord but they don’t love and honor His Word. God and His Word are One. You can’t really know God outside of His Word because He is the Word! And how can you have faith in God outside His Word because that’s where faith is?

How can you have faith for healing if you don’t know that it’s God’s will to heal everyone, every time? And you only know that through His Word. This is where many people miss it. They go by someone else’s experience and put their faith in that rather than what God has actually said in His Word.

Our Heavenly Father is a Covenant-keeping God Who honors His Word. He’s faithful, faithful, faithful but unless you know Him through His Word, you wouldn’t be able to pray in faith and expect His results.

Having said all that, let me ask a question. Why don’t people get into God’s Word and learn Who He is? One reason is that most people, in any given situation, will take the path of least resistance. But that’s rarely the best solution. Most people are headed in the wrong direction – downstream. But when you do things God’s way, it’s like swimming upstream and that takes effort and perseverance.

Living the Christian life is not hard, it’s impossible apart from the Holy Spirit helping us. Christianity is not for the lazy or faint-hearted. It’s for those who will grab hold of God’s Word, dig in, and discover His hidden truths that will set them free to live the victoriously life He has for them.

John 1:1 (KJV) 1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 14:10-11 (KJV) 10  Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11  Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

Pamela

So – You have a Problem!

We all are painfully aware that living on planet earth affords us plenty of opportunity to deal with problems. We don’t like it but this is a fallen world and satan is out to steal, kill, and destroy. But that’s not the end.

As we see in John 10:10, Jesus came that we might have and enjoy an abundant life. So what do we do when we have a problem? Worldly people do all sorts of things to solve their problems but what are we, as born-again Christians, supposed to do? How do we solve our problems without going the world’s way?

First of all, when we get born-again, we’re not to discard our common sense, as some have done. We’re to seek God’s way of doing things and listen to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Secondly, just because we think we have the solution, we need to keep our options open because just maybe God has a better solution! After all, He’s smarter than us!

Thirdly, don’t lock God in a box. Just because He answered a certain way before, doesn’t mean that’s the solution this time. Stay open and tuned in to the Holy Spirit’s leading. Many times His solutions are way different than ours.

Too many times we jump to the wrong conclusion about what to do because we’re impatient and don’t want to spend time seeking the Lord for the answer. This isn’t good because we can miss the best solution – the one that works.

My observation has been that when push comes to shove, and the heat is on, many Christians will default to the world’s ways and this can be disastrous. What you do in a crisis situation tells a lot about what’s really in your heart and what you actually believe. Listen to yourself. Is faith in God’s Word coming out of your mouth or is it the world’s answers?

As I say often, you can’t have faith beyond your knowledge of God’s Word because that’s where faith is. And your faith won’t rise higher than the confession of your mouth. Too many Christians think they already know God’s Word because they heard it once or twice. Not so.

Brothers and sisters, we need God’s Word going into our hearts and coming out of our mouths daily, not just when we’re in a panic because it won’t work in a crisis situation if it hasn’t been firmly planted in our hearts.

Let’s make God’s Word a priority in our lives and live the supernatural life God has ordained for us.

2 Corinthians 4:4 (KJV) 4  In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
John 10:10 (KJV) 10  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

I’m a Christian but . . .

How many Christians claim to be Christians but . . . they don’t really follow the Bible. They believe in Halloween, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. How can this be? I thought celebrating witches, goblins, evil spirits, and ghosts was anti-Bible which would actually be anti-Christ!

Yes, I’m aware that many Christians don’t let the Bible get in the way of what they believe. And they probably don’t actually worship those things but, dear brothers and sisters, it’s still opening the door to some really bad stuff. What you need to do is research the origin of Halloween; it’ll be an eye-opener.

As for Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy, why would Bible-believing parents promote these lies and then wonder why it’s so hard for their children to believe in Jesus? Is Jesus just another myth?

If you’re going to play the Santa Claus game, at least tell your children that he’s just pretend and people pretend like it’s a game. Christians have to determine and commit to not compromising the Bible in order to fit in with the world.

We need to stand for Biblical values and be separate from the world. We should look and act differently – not just mimic what’s going on around us so that we blend in. Why would we even want to look like the unsaved who are marching right to hell and defending their right to do so?

Let’s take our stand and show the unsaved that what we have is far better and worth having!

Colossians 3:9 (KJV) 9  Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
Ephesians 4:27 (AMP) 27  Leave no [such] room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him].
Romans 15:13 (KJV) 13  Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing [the truth], that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
Mark 9:42 (KJV) 42  And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
1 Corinthians 15:33 (AMP) 33  Do not be so deceived and misled! Evil companionships (communion, associations) corrupt and deprave good manners and morals and character.

Faithfulness – the Key to Increase in God

Faithfulness: fidelity; loyalty; firm adherence to allegiance and duty; truth; veracity; strict adherence to injunctions and to duties of a station; strict performance of promises; vows to covenants; consistency in affection [Noah Webster – 1828 Dictionary]

Is faithfulness really all that important? We live in a corrupt world and faithfulness doesn’t seem to be a priority among the masses, even among Christians. Why is that? Let me elaborate.

As born-again Christians, we purport to love the Lord with all our hearts and to honor Him as God. But do we really do that? We expect faithfulness from God in all that He does, but when it comes to us, we don’t hold ourselves to the same standard. That is totally wrong and obstructs the blessings of God in our lives.

Faithfulness has to do with faith and without faith it’s impossible to please God. Faith believes that what God has said is true and then walks in that truth.

So how do we nurture faithfulness in our lives? We first have to make a commitment to wanting to be faithful and then live it out step by step. If God can’t trust us because of unfaithfulness, why would we even think He would increase us and promote us?

  1. Are you faithful in putting God first place in your life? Do you read and study His Word to find out Who He is and how to live the way He has ordained for you to live?
  2. Are you faithful on your job?
  3. Are you faithful in your relationships?
  4. Are you faithful in your marriage and family?
  5. Are you faithful in tithes and offerings?
  6. How about more love, joy, peace in your life? Yes, they’re in your re-born spirit but if you’re not walking in faithfulness, your heart will condemn you and you will have a hard time trying to release the fruit of your spirt into your life. [Gal. 5:22-23]

Luke 16:10-12 (KJV) 10  He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
11  If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
12  And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?

You see, brothers and sisters, God is very interested in the little things that you do because if you’re not faithful in the little things, you’ll never be faithful in the big things. Little is much when God is in it.

The opposite is true that if you’re faithful in the little things, God can trust you with bigger things. That’s how He tests and proves you.

Most of us know the right thing to do but we don’t always do it. Why? Because we don’t honor God and His Word the way we should. It’s not a priority with many people and that’s the problem. If everyone who calls themselves a born-again Christian really got into the Word of God and did what it said, what a change it would be in their lives!

Being faithful to God is being faithful to His word!

Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)
6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

1 Corinthians 1:9 (KJV) 9  God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
2 Timothy 2:13 (KJV) 13  If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV) 22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
