³¹  And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

One of the basic tenets of the Christian faith is the Virgin Birth of Jesus. Without that, we’d still be in our sins because Jesus would have been born in sin just like the entire human race.

The seed is not of the woman but of the man. But Jesus was not conceived biologically the way we were. His conception was supernatural by the power of the Holy Spirit overshadowing Mary and that Seed was God — not man. Therefore, Jesus was not conceived in sin (the original sin of Adam).

So, just how did this happen? It was supernatural and sometimes trying to explain supernatural things by natural means can be hard to understand. But let’s open our hearts to receive the truth of God’s Word and believe for an impartation of understanding.

Going back to the scripture in Luke 1:38, we see that what the angel had spoken to Mary in Luke 1:30-31, she accepted and received that Word regarding the birth of Jesus for she said, “Be it unto me according to thy Word”. She received the Word spoken by the angel that she would conceive by the Spirit of God and would bear a Son — Jesus.

You see, it was the Word of God –the living Word of God that she received. And that “living Word” became flesh when she received It!

Now, as miraculous as the birth of Jesus was, I submit to you that the New Birth (when you got born again) is just as supernatural. When you got born-again, you went from death to life. Your spirit—the real you—came alive to God! Praise the Lord of Glory!

Now fasten your seat belts because here is another thing that will absolutely stop the parade and cause you to want to shout from the roof top: When you take the promises of God from His Word, believe and receive them into your spirit, they will become flesh to you the same way the Word concerning Jesus’ birth became flesh to Mary when she conceived it in her spirit.

That’s what Jesus said in Mark 11:23-24. If you say (speak the promise), doubt not in your heart, believe what you’ve said (confessed), you shall have whatsoever you have said—the promise of God! And even though the promises belong to us, they’re only activated by what Mark 11:23-24 tells us to do.

You see, it all works the same way—say, doubt not, believe, and  receive. Believe that you receive when you pray, not when the manifestation comes. That’s what Mary did. She believed the Word, received it, and got the manifestation of Jesus – our Lord and Savior.

We have so much to be eternally grateful for and will spend all eternity with our Lord Jesus because of what He has done for us!

An interesting thing happened to me on the way to vote last November. As I was driving along, it suddenly occurred to me that I had left my cell phone at home. But before I had a chance to get upset, this thought came up in my spirit — but I have You Lord! Wow! What a concept—trusting the Lord!

But, really, who or what is it that we really trust in? Remember, God has ministering angels to help us and they’re way better than any other help.

However, trusting God and His ways isn’t automatic. We don’t get saved and immediately start fully trusting God. It’s a learning process because we’ve been so inundated and programmed by the world’s ways that trusting God, Whom we can’t see, is a major paradigm shift. But, oh how safe and secure it is!

So, how do we learn to trust God? By studying, standing on, and trusting in His Word. He said that He would never leave nor forsake us, that He is with us always, that He’s given His angels charge over us, that no weapon formed against us shall prosper, and that He’s given us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him. That means through the knowledge of His Word.

Not only that, but we have the faith of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Blood of Jesus, the Name of Jesus, and the total Word of God at our fingertips! What more could we need? Nothing because our gracious Heavenly Father has so totally provided for us that we are more than conquerors through Jesus!

Luke 11:34-35 (KJV) ³⁴  The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
³⁵  Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

Let’s discuss just what the light of the body is and how do we walk in that light.

Light in the Word of God refers to illumination, revelation, and insight into the things of God. When we have that, all else fades in comparison. So just how do we accomplish getting full of the light of God so that no darkness can overrule us?

As you know from the Word, Jesus used natural things to explain spiritual things. So let’s do that.

Have you ever been around people who had so much passion for their hobbies that they talked almost nonstop about them? I think we all know people like that. That’s an example of being full of something—their passion for their hobbies or interests. That’s what they’re focused on and that’s what comes out of them whenever they get the chance to share. You can say their whole body is full of their hobbies, interests, etc.

That’s what we’re talking about. What you focus on is what you will be full of, whether it’s good or evil. That’s what will come out when you open your mouth. If we focus on the problems of life, that’s what we’ll be full of and it will hinder our faith. However, if we focus on the promises of God and His Word, that’s what we’ll be full and that’s what will bring victory.

Darkness is evil and will negate your faith. You can’t pray for victory and focus on defeat. It doesn’t work that way. Remember when God told Abram (Abraham) that everything his eye could see would be his? Well, it’s the same today. Whatever you can “see” in the Word, you can have as your very own. God is no respecter of persons. If He did it for one, He’ll do it for you but you must first “see” it in your mind’s eye—the eye of faith.

The whole point I’m making is that it’s extremely important what you focus on and what you give your attention to. That’s what determines what is in you in abundance and that’s what will come out. For certain, you want the Word of God to come out in faith in whatever situation arises. That’s what will put you over and give you the victory! Praise the Lord of Glory for His unspeakable gift to us!

Are you red-hot for the Lord or is there a cloud of smoke hiding your identity in the Lord? As the questions asks, “If you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough proof to convict you?” Sobering, isn’t it?

Does your Christianity show? I’m not talking about bumper stickers or Jesus bracelets. I’m talking about your actions that everyone can see. Are you kind and generous, loving and forgiving? Do you prefer others? These are all traits of a godly person, which show the love of God. That’s how people are going to know we’re Christians—by our love for one another.

Our Christianity shouldn’t be a “church only” Christianity. It should be a way of life showing forth the love of God and thus drawing people to the Lord. When people come in contact with us, it should be for good. We should be different from the everyday, run-of-the-mill person.

Now, I’m not talking about being obnoxious and over-bearing. Yes, I think we’ve all encountered those people. That doesn’t glorify the Lord. In fact, it causes people to want to avoid us at all costs. Let’s not be like that.

We need to let our light shine. And this is the season to do it. Christmas is a time when many people are more open to the Lord than at other times during the year. Many don’t even know why they’re celebrating the season. We can tell them – Jesus is the Reason for the Season!

This is the season for giving because God gave His very BEST so that we could get back in fellowship with Him. And even though there are many ways to express love, the greatest expression of love is giving. Let’s give Jesus to those within our realm of influence, not just now, but throughout the whole year.

Are you a prisoner of your past? Do your past mistakes define who you are and ultimately dictate your future? If they do, they shouldn’t. Jesus bought and paid for all your past, present, and future sins and mistakes. You never could, and cannot even now, pay for your sins. That’s why Jesus went to the Cross to be our substitute. He took our place. But, in spite of all that, we can still let the devil keep us in bondage to our past.

Now, just what kind of things am I talking about? Lots of things, especially the things no one knows about—just you and God. But that shouldn’t make a difference since God is the only One who really matters. Sure, people will gossip. We know that, but it shouldn’t keep us from living the life that the Lord Jesus bought and paid for us to have.

In addition to the past mistakes we have made, which have been cast into the sea of God’s forgetfulness, there is that nagging, gnawing, wicked unforgiveness of which many Christians can’t seem to let go. Some have even held onto the unforgiveness for decades, as if that would change anything! Oh, it did change someone and that’s you. Unforgiveness against another person never has the same effect on them as it does on the one with the unforgiveness.

Allowing our past sins, mistakes, and unforgiveness rule our lives falls so far short of the life that God intends for us to live. We are not to be defined by our past but rather to let the Word of God define who we are. We’ve been forgiven and set apart for God’s glory. We are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. We’re not some ol’ sinner trudging through life hopin’ and a-prayin’ that we last ‘til the Rapure! That’s not the abundant life that Jesus came to give us.

We are precious and special to God, who gave His very Best to bring us back into right relationship with Him. We were purchased with the Blood of the Lord Jesus!  And then, when we got born-again, He gave us the Name of Jesus, power of the Blood of Jesus, the Word of God, the faith of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit! We couldn’t ask for anything more because God gave us everything we could ever need on this planet to be successful and victorious.

So, take inventory of what’s been holding you back from enjoying the freedom of your salvation. Get rid of the weights and bondages and get on with what God has for you! Praise the Lord of Glory!

What a day and age we live in! There’s the Me-Generation, the X-Generation, the Techie-Generation, Yippies, Yuppies, Twitters, Facebook friends, and the list goes on and on. Some of us can ever remember the Flower-power generation! These are just a few of the groups that have identified themselves an entities unto themselves. And, to make matters worse, each group has their own language, especially the texters with all their abbreviations and emojis.

It seems that we are a people so busy doing our own thing, it’s a wonder that we ever get answered prayer when we don’t spend any time with the King of Kings! Oh, sure, we shoot up a prayer when things get tough because it makes us feel better. But do we really expect an answer?  

We make decisions based on our own limited knowledge and research when, in fact, going to God and seeking His wisdom about the situation would save a lot of heartache in the end. Why is it that we think we’re so smart and don’t need God in our lives 24/7? One small “church” meal once a week is just not enough. One “Promise Box” scripture as you’re running out the door to go to work is just not enough. We need to spend time with God because He is God! Getting saved is not the end; it’s the beginning!

Instead of being totally filled with the ways of the world – sports, hobbies, work, and entertainment, we need to fill up on God. The Word tells us to be filled with the Holy Spirit, filled with joy and peace, filled with comfort, filled with the fruits of righteousness, filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and understanding, and filled with all the fullness of God. What a way to live!

To be filled means to make replete-filled to satiation; imbue –to permeate. These definitions tell us that if we are filled with all the above, we would really be on fire for God. Wow! What a day that will be but it takes effort to keep our minds fixed on the things of God because the world is screaming at us from every direction, even in the stores in which we shop. That ungodly music can drive us to never want to go back there again!

How can you know if you’re filled with God? Here’s a test: When a situation arises, what’s the first thing that comes out of your mouth? If it’s the Word of God, good. That’s what I should be. But if it’s anything else… I think you get the point.

God’s Word is the only sure thing we have in this world and if it’s not in us, it won’t do us any good. Remember, faith in God comes by hearing and hearing and hearing God’s Word so that I gets down into your spirit. Then when a crisis arises, that’s what will come out with power.

As I was driving this morning, I noticed some very tall trees along the road. As I pondered the possibility of them falling onto the road during a storm, I was reminded that trees have very deep roots and even some, particularly evergreens with needles, lock their roots together with each other so they won’t topple in a storm.

Searching for your “roots” is very popular today. People go to great lengths to find out where they came from and who’s in their family tree. But, as Christians, we know that we are all related, going back to Adam and Eve. However, not everyone is a child of God. Only those who have put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ are the true children of God. (Gal. 3:26)

As I continued, I thought of us, as Christians, and just how do we withstand the storms of life? By having deep and strong roots. Being rooted and grounded in God’s Word will always give you a heads-up against any situation you encounter. But, the Word has to be in your heart—not just in your head. Then when a crisis occurs, the Word will come up out of you with power and you won’t fall apart like a $2 suitcase.

Continuing along with the “root” analogy, just like a tree, we can lock our faith together with other true believers and wow—what power! If trees know how to withstand in the day of adversity, how much more can we stand on God’s Word and be victorious in every situation of life!

Galatians 3:26 (KJV) ²⁶  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
Proverbs 4:20-23 (KJV) ²⁰  My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
²¹  Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

There’s a lot of emphasis these days on getting exercise and eating the right foods, especially organic. There are numerous videos, TV programs, infomercials, and blogs to name a few ways we have been inundated with information concerning our physical health. And, yes, that’s important because if we don’t take care of our physical bodies, there will be consequences—and not good ones.

However, there’s more to us than just our body, which serves as our “earthly” house. We have a soul which is comprised of our mind, will, emotions, intellect, personality, and character. This part of us is also touted as important to keep active and healthy by studying, learning, and using our minds to navigate through this life.

But, all that – body and soul—is not the real you and not the most important part of you. You are actually a spirit created in the image of God. Your spirit lives in your body and you have a soul. [Gen 1:26] And that’s what I want to discuss today.

Most people, including Christians, don’t put much emphasis on feeding their spirits on a daily diet of the Word of God. Of course, we eat our “three” meals each day and even use our minds at work to gain more knowledge, but what about our spirits, the part of us that contacts God and hears from Him about what we are to do in  life? Sadly, this is missing in most people’s lives.

I remember Kenneth Hagin telling about a vision he had of people and in it he saw their spirits shriveled up and emaciated. That’s the same thing that would happen if people stopped eating; they’d shriveled up and eventually die.

Just because you ate dinner yesterday, doesn’t mean you don’t have to eat today. But that’s exactly what many think when it comes to the things of God. One message at church is not enough to keep your spirit healthy. You have to get into the Word of God on a daily basis. The more your feed your spirit, the stronger it will get. Remember, faith in God comes from hearing His Word. Without the Word, there’s nothing to stand on and without faith it’s impossible to please God. [Heb 11:6]

Getting the Word of God from your head down into your heart (spirit) only comes through studying, speaking, and acting on His Word. The amount of active faith you have is directly proportional to the amount of Word in your heart. You can’t believe beyond your knowledge of the Word. That’s why it behooves us to actively pursue the things of God and feed on a daily diet of His Word. When you do this, things in your life will change and your prayer confidence will increase by leaps and bounds!

Genesis 1:26 (KJV) ²⁶  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Just what is identity theft? It’s when someone steals your true identity and robs you of who you are and even tries to impersonate you.

Has the devil stolen your identity? Are you a victim, not knowing who you really are? Let’s change that.

First of all, you’re not a nobody or a nothing! The devil might have told  you that you’ll never amount to much, that things never work out for you, and even that you’re a loser. But these are all lies from the father of lies–the devil himself. To even say things is to bring reproach upon your Creator.  Jesus purchased you with a redemption that is worth the whole world. Whatever He is and has, you have because in Him dwells the fullness of the God-head bodily. And the good news is that you’re in Him if you’ve been born-again! In other words, your true identity is in the Lord Jesus. Praise the Lord of glory!

Let’s look at what is actually in us. (The confirming scriptures are at the end of this message.)

1 – In Ephesians we see that we are blessed with every spiritual in Heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

2 – We were chosen before the foundation of the world.

3 – We have been adopted into the kingdom of God.

4 – Favor and mercy have been bestowed on us.

5 – We have been redeemed from sin, sickness, and spiritual death.

6 – We have been delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of the Son of God’s Love—the Lord Jesus.

7 – We have salvation through the Blood of Jesus.

8 – We have been chosen of God—even before we were born.

9 – We have been sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.

10 – We are the Body of the Lord Jesus on earth and in Him dwells the fullness of the God-head bodily. Therefore, the fullness dwells in us by the Holy Spirit.

11 – And because we are in Jesus, Who is made unto us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, we are righteous in the eyes of God and set apart for His glory!

These verses show you who you are in Jesus. You are powerhouse going somewhere to be a blessing to all those around you! Meditate on these attributes and you will annihilate depression, inferiority, and intimidation!

Have you ever decided to bake something and failed to check if you had all the ingredients? I have, and when the main ingredient is flour and you don’t have it, that’s a problem!

I did that when making pizza. I had the yeast going and then I checked the flour and found out I had run out—not a pretty picture! Substituting bread flour for all-purpose flour didn’t work very well. Needless to say, I stocked up and learned a valuable lesson.

However, what puzzled me was that I endeavor to always keep my pantry stocked up for any baking project. So, what went wrong? Actually, nothing. I later discovered that I had put the extra bag of flour in the veggie drawer of the fridge for lack of cupboard space. I had recently moved into a new home and was still getting used to where I stashed things! But, it was still a good learning lesson.

So, you might ask, what does all this have to do with the message? A lot! Just like you can’t use the wrong ingredients when baking, you can’t use the wrong “ingredients” when praying. You can’t mix doubt and unbelief with faith and get the desired results. Let’s look at Mark 11:23:

 Mark 11:23 (KJV) ²³  For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

I want you to notice the ingredients in this verse for getting results: shall say, shall not doubt in your heart, shall believe, shall have. Mixing doubt and unbelief with your faith will not get you the right results. But let’s dig a little further.

Just what is doubt? Doubt actually questions the stand you’re taking; it withdraws from the original position of believing God. But, let me say that if you have doubt in your head but faith in your heart, you can still get the desired results. In Mark 11 Jesus tells us to doubt not in our hearts but believe. And you can only believe with your heart, not your head.

Now what about unbelief? Unbelief can come from wrong teaching or just not knowing the truth. It can also come from focusing on the physical realm instead of the spirit realm where all the answers are. So what do you do? I’m glad you asked because it’s not hard, just takes effort on your part.

First of all, you must re-program you mind with the truth of God’s Word so that it gets down into your heart. That’s called renewing your mind.

Romans 12:2 (KJV) ²  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Ephesians 4:23 (KJV) ²³  And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) ¹⁵  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Faith is in the heart, not the head. That’s why you need to study God’s Word because faith comes by hearing God’s Word – Romans 10:17.

The way to get rid of unbelief is to know God’s Word. But, in addition to that, you need to focus on the spirit realm more than the physical realm. If all you’ll ever believe is what you can know with your five physical senses – see, hear, smell, taste, touch—you’ll never walk in the fullness of what God has for you.

Walking in the spirit realm is a higher realm, actually the parent realm of the physical realm. You must look beyond what you see with your natural eyes and look to God’s Word (the spirit realm) to determine what is the truth. For example:

If you’re battling a sickness, and you pray, rebuking it, commanding it to go,  and standing on God’s Word that by the stripes of Jesus you have already been healed, but then look at your body and notice that it still looks sick, you have to bypass that and continue to stand on God’s Word. Don’t be moved by what you see. Be moved only by what God’s Word says.

Unbelief will negate your faith faster than a New York minute if you let it. Take your stand and be a faither, standing on God’s Word and walking in victory!

1 Peter 2:24 (KJV) ²⁴  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
