Traditions! We all have them and many are upheld during holiday seasons. But what if your traditions are hurting you by blocking your faith from working? Whatever do I mean by that?
Mark 7:13a(AMP) 13 Thus you are nullifying and making void and of no effect [the authority of] the Word of God through your tradition, which you [in turn] hand on.
Jesus is saying that their traditions made the Word of God ineffective, non-productive, and inoperative. It’s like saying: we’ve always done it that way; we’ve always believed it this way. But, I say to you, how’s it working? Are you getting your desired results? Or are you throwing out the Word of God in place of your experiences and traditions? Are you praying much but getting little results, if any, because you’ve always done or believed it a certain way?
If what you’re doing isn’t working – change! How hard is that to understand? Maybe you don’t know all there is (you can be sure of that). Maybe there’s more to learn – there is!
I like to use math as an example. If all you know is how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, and you think that’s all there is to math, you’ll miss out on fractions, algebra, trig, etc. Maybe you’re not interested in higher math but be glad some people were who have opened the door to new technology using math!
Maybe you don’t think God’s methods of healing are important but just ask a sick person if they want to be healed!
How are we ever going to help a sick and dying world turn to Jesus if we can’t even help ourselves?
Never let your experience or traditions determine what you’ll believe about the Word of God! God is faithful, faithful, faithful and always backs up His Word!
Numbers 23:19 (KJV) 19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
