Look around and tell me if you see the gifts of the Holy Spirit manifesting. Most of you will say that you don’t see them in operation. But Church history confirms that the gifts of the Holy Spirit have been in operation ever since the early Church, even though many have proclaimed that they have passed away.
So, I ask you, are the gifts of the Spirit for us today and if so, why don’t we see them manifesting? The short answer is that the gifts of the Spirit as identified in I Corinthians 12 are definitely and absolutely for us today and should be in operation in the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. So, what’s the problem?
Before I discuss the problem, let me give you some scriptures to confirm that the Gifts are for us today.
Hebrews 13:8 (KJV) 8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Malachi 3:6a (KJV) 6 For I am the LORD, I change not;
Numbers 23:19 (KJV) 19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Romans 11:29 (KJV) 29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
God doesn’t lie and therefore, His Word can be trusted. He gave the gifts and He hasn’t taken them back. In fact we need them today more than ever!
1 Corinthians 12:8-10 (KJV) 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
Here we see just what gifts we’re talking about. But, again I ask you, since Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, why aren’t seeing the Gifts in manifestation the way God intended us to? If we’re baptized with the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues, then we should be operating in the Gifts.
God hasn’t changed; people have. It seems that the Gifts are not as important to many people as they should be. Yes, there has been some whacky stuff happen with carnal Christians, but that doesn’t negate the fact that the genuine exists.
John 14:12 (KJV) 12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Here we have the bonafide words of Jesus. Again I ask you, are we seeing the Church doing the works of Jesus? Certainly not the way God wants it to happen. Why?
I am always amazed that there are still Christians in the body of Christ who don’t believe the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are for us today even though they’re in operation in many ministries! How in the world can they believe this with a clear conscience? His gifts are certainly and most assuredly for us today and do we ever need them!!!
If we’re going to get the attention of the unsaved world, we need to move in the supernatural. That will certainly get their attention and then we can tell them about Jesus.
Mark 16:20 (KJV) 20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
If we preach and teach the Word of God, He is faithful to confirm His Word with signs following! Wow, do we need this is our meetings!
