If you’ve ever gone white-water rafting, you know that a raging river can be very dangerous. Why? Because the river can overtake you in spite of trying diligently to stay in control.
It’s the same way in our society today. The world and its evil ways are raging all around, trying to overtake us and drown us in their perversion. They’ll use anything they can: deception, lies, trickery – all to cause us to fall and lose our godly witness for the Lord Jesus. And it’s easy to be swept up in all the world’s negativity because most of the world is going the wrong way and trying to drag us with them.
But remember Eph. 6:12:
Ephesians 6:12 (KJV) 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
We’re not really fighting against the people but against the wicked spirits all around who are influencing everyone they can. The devil is the kingpin behind all the evil that’s been perpetrated against us and trying to ensnare and entangle us in their evil ways.
God says we are to be wise as serpents, harmless as doves, and give no place to the devil and his wicked ways. In other words, we are to be on our guard 24/7.
So, how are we going to do this? How are we going to avoid being swept along with the ungodly and their deception? First of all, we are well able to stand firm on the truth and not be suckered into all the deception of the enemy. There are two ways (as I have mentioned in earlier blogs) to keep from being deceived:
1 – Always ask what God’s Word has to say about the matter at hand and –
2 – What do you witness in your spirit? What are you hearing inside?
Now, I need to preface #2 by saying that in order to trust the witness in your spirit, you must be a born-again believer and you must learn how to hear from God, which is easy because He desires for you to hear from Him.
Remember, we have a higher realm that supersedes the natural/physical realm. We must not be swept up with what the unsaved world is saying and doing. God already knows the end from the beginning and He’s the One we need to follow.
These are exciting times for those who are followers of Jesus and stand on His Word!
Matthew 10:16 (KJV) 16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
Ephesians 4:27 (KJV) 27 Neither give place to the devil.
James 4:7 (KJV) 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
1 Peter 5:8-9 (KJV) 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Isaiah 46:9-10 (KJV) 9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
