It seems that when a person gets born-again, the enemy sends people across their path to distract them with the “letter of the law” or with some man-made doctrine to confuse them. These are babies! But the devil doesn’t care. If he can get them distracted and off the truth of God’s Word, then they won’t grow. This ought not so to be!
That’s why it’s incumbent upon the seasoned Christians to guide and watch out for these new Christians.
Notice the following scripture:
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
We are instructed to study the Word of God so that we can rightly divide it. What that means is that we are to dig into God’s Word and find out the truths in it. This is not a cursory look at it or a simple grabbing of a card out of the scripture box on the way out the door. No, we are to actually take time and put forth effort to study and learn God’s Word so that when a situation comes up, we can draw from the reservoir of Word that’s in us.
And so it is with discerning false teaching and doctrines and false interpretations of the Word. God’s Word actually confirms itself if you study it out. Let me give you a classic example.
Ephesians 5:22 (KJV) 22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
This scripture has long been used against women telling them to submit to the iron rule of their husbands! This is not what this verse means. Let’s look at another scripture:
Ephesians 5:21 (KJV) 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
Here we see that we, as born-again children of God, are to submit one to another! How ’bout that! Let’s continue.
Submit means to give in, be agreeable, and get along with one another. It means not having to have your own way all the time but preferring the other person. Wow – if we all did this, there wouldn’t be any room for strife and contention!
This is about getting along with each other, not lording it over each other, especially husbands and wives. And then if that’s not explanatory enough, look at these scriptures:
Ephesians 5:25 (KJV) 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Ephesians 5:21 (KJV) 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
John 13:34 (KJV) 34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
And of course, there’s I Cor. 13:4-8, in case you want a bible definition of what the God-kind of love is.
You see, if we’re told to rightly divide the Word of God, then it’s possible to wrongly divide the Word of God, and make a mess of our lives. God’s Word is meant to deliver you from bondage, not bind you up. Jesus came to set the captives free. Praise His Holy Name!
Brothers and sisters, it’s imperative that we study God’s Word so that we can discern the truth and not be duped by the lies and false doctrines of the devil. God has all the solutions to everything that confronts us. But without studying His Word, how would you know where to find those answers?
Praise the Lord for His Unspeakable Gift to us!
John 15:12 (KJV) 12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
John 15:13 (KJV) 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
John 13:35 (KJV) 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
John 15:17 (KJV) 17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.
Romans 12:10 (KJV) 10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
Galatians 5:13 (KJV) 13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
2 Timothy 2:26 (KJV) 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
