Who are You Following?

It seems that any one time in our lives, we’re following someone or something: people, beliefs, ideologies, concepts, ideas, and the list goes on and on. But, is there a right answer to the question: who should we follow? Yes there is and it’s the Lord Jesus Christ!

John 13:15 (KJV) 15  For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

Jesus tells us that He is the example to follow and rightly so since He was and is the perfect example of how we should live. But how many do that? Not many. Just look around and ask yourself if those you’re observing are following in Jesus’ footsteps and changing the world for good? Look in the mirror and ask yourself the same question.

So what’s the problem? Notice what Jesus told us to do!

John 14:12 (KJV) 12  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Matthew 10:8 (KJV) 8  Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

As Christians, we should, of all people be following and acting like Jesus would act but we aren’t. Why not? Because we don’t have confidence that we can do what He has told us we can do. But wait—there’s an answer to that.

Whenever we have to step out and take a risk, whether it’s an action, sharing some scriptures with others, or praying for the sick, we don’t have that anointing until we actually step out. Then we get God’s empowerment.

Too many people are waiting for the “anointing” to hit before they step out but it doesn’t work that way. You have to step our first and then the anointing kicks in.

It’s similar to the Israelites crossing the Jordan River. The priests had to step into the river before it divided and they could go across. [Joshua 3:1-17]

And so it is with us. We have to be bold and step out to do what God has told us to do and then we’ll receive the empowerment to do it. There’s no place for a wimpy attitude!

Ephesians 5:1 (KJV) 1  Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

1 Corinthians 11:1 (KJV) 1  Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
