Hope you enjoyed the lessons on why faith is so important to God and why it should be important to us. Please feel free to review anytime. My plan is to build on each lesson as we go along so it behooves you to keep on track so that you don’t miss anything. (That’s the teacher part of me talking!)
To recap: We found out that faith is not a theological position, a movement, or a group. It’s a way of life and the only way to please God. And if we want to live the victorious life that He has for us, we need to use our faith everyday- 24/7. Remember, the God-kind of faith comes from His Word so it is of utmost importance that we get His Word into us.
God is a faith God. That’s how He operates and functions and since we’re made in His image, that’s how we’re to operate and function. [Genesis 1:26; Ephesians 5:1]
Just what is this God-kind of faith? Let’s look at our textbook – the Bible – and find out what God’s definition of faith is.
Hebrews 11:1 (KJV) 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Here we see that faith is substance and evidence. When you pray, you’re hoping for something to come to fruition. Your faith is what locks onto your hope and is the substance and evidence that what you have prayed will come to pass.
The Bible definition of hope is confident expectation. It’s not just a wishin’ and a hopin’! Your hope (confident expectation) is what your faith latches onto. Without hope, faith has nothing to reach out for and grab.
Let’s look at another version of that scripture:
Hebrews 11:1 (YLT) 1 And faith is of things hoped for a confidence, of matters not seen a conviction,
Here we see that faith is a confidence and a conviction that what we have prayed will come to pass.
Hebrews 11:1 (AMP) 1 NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].
Faith is an assurance that we’ll see our desired results. I think you’re seeing a theme.
