Faith is a spiritual law, as we have discussed. [Romans 3:27] But in order for faith to operate, it must be activated. How do we do that? By our words. Our words are what activate our faith and set spiritual law into motion. Remember, because faith is a spiritual law, it always works when we do our part because God has already done His part.
And remember, if words can change your eternal destiny, words can change your present circumtances!
James 2:17-18 (KJV) 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
I want you to see that faith without works is dead faith. What does this mean? James is not talking about works to ensure your salvation. He’s talking about faith without corresponding action to that faith. Let me explain.
As I’ve said before, faith is like a muscle that has to be exercised in order for it to develop. Without exercise and proper nutrition, muscles will not develop the proper way. It’s the same with faith. If you don’t exercise your faith, it won’t develop into the faith that God intended for you to walk in and you won’t be the victorious overcomer you’ve been ordained to be. So how do we do that?
First of all there are two things about faith that you need to know. First, it has to be fed just like your muscles. And it has to be exercised just like your muscles. We need to feed our faith by the Word of God and we exercise it by using it. Don’t wait for the big problems. Start using your faith on the little things.
James is talking about using your faith to effect change. That’s what he means by works. Our salvation is already settled when we accepted Jesus as our Savior.
