Faith is Not a Feeling!

So, what’s all the “ado” about faith? Either you have it or you don’t – right? Wrong!

There’s much ado about faith because God is a faith God and makes much ado about faith! Therefore, we should also. That should settle it for us.

Now, for those “touchy, feely” people, faith is not a feeling! We don’t feel faith. People often say the “felt” this or that when referring to faith but it would be more accurate to say, “I was impressed about this or that.” It’s not a feeling. It’s a “sensing” in your spirit.

So, just what is faith? It’s simply believing what God has said in His Word and then acting accordingly. It’s our positive response to what God has already provided by His grace. Without faith, we can’t please God and if we can’t please God, we’ll be in s constant state of frustration because as Christians, we intuitively want to please God. That’s our heart. Well, isn’t it great to know that we can actually, as human beings, please God Almighty, Creator of the heavens and earth? We can please the Creator of the Universe by using our faith and believing and acting on His Word,

Feelings and emotions can’t be trusted. They’re fickle and unreliable and dependent upon circumstances which are in the devil’s realm. He simply changes the circumstances by rearranging things. It’s all the same, just packaged differently.

That’s why you can’t “move” to get away from your problems because they’re devil-influenced and he’s out to steal, kill, and destroy. But, don’t let him. Stand your ground and keep walking by faith. Your shield of faith will quench all the fiery darts of the enemy and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, will keep you on the right path.

Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not to our own understanding. This will keep us in good stead.

John 15:5 tells us to abide in the Word and let the Word abide in us. We are to abide in the vine because without Jesus, Who is the Word, we can do nothing of any value. We abide in Him and He abides in us by the Word. That’s why it’s so important to know the Word of God. Not knowing the Word is the greatest enemy of our faith.

God has all the answers we’ll ever need, even before we need them. Don’t rely on your feelings. Rely on God’s Word and walk in victory!

Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) 6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
John 10:10 (KJV) 10  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Ephesians 6:16-17 (KJV) 16  Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV) 5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

John 15:5,7 (KJV) 5  I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
7  If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Can We Actually Hear from God?

Does God speak to people today? Can we really hear from Him?

I believe the heart of every true believer is to be able to hear from God and know that He’s the One speaking. But, how does that happen and can it really happen?

Let’s go to the Word and see what God has to say about the subject. We are told to heed His voice, walk in His ways, and do His works by doing His Word. Now, just how can we do this if we can’t hear from Him? Well, we can hear and it’s not all that hard. God never requires us to do something that we can’t do.

The Holy Spirit indwells us and witnesses truth to our spirit. For example, if you declare, “I’m saved by the Blood of Jesus,” you’ll notice the witness (a sensing) in your spirit acknowledging that this is true. It’s a knowing and a peace in your spirit that this is true. This is one way we hear.

Another way is the peace factor. An example would be when you’re trying to make a decision about something. Which option do you have peace about in your spirit? Which one indicates a scratchiness? If you’re really sincere about hearing from the Lord, you’ll be able to trust that peace. But if you’re determined to “have it your way,” you won’t get a true reading.

Then there are the times when, after you’ve prayed about something, you go about your business and then, like out of nowhere you get a thought or an idea about what to do about your situation. Actually, it doesn’t come out of nowhere. It comes out of your spirit and that’s when we say, “This Lord told me…”

Can we ever going to be absolutely positive that what we’re hearing is from the Lord? Maybe, maybe not. It depends. Many times I have found that when I step out on what I’ve heard, that’s when I get confirmation that I really did hear. But even if we make a mistake, God can realign us. Course corrections are always happening. This walk of faith with the Lord is not without winding roads!

When the Space Shuttle first went up, the astronauts made course corrections every ten minutes. And even though they had a 500 mile landing strip, they landed just inside 5 feet of the 500 mile strip!

Nothing is a straight path because we live in a world that is under the curse and we have an enemy who’s out to steal, kill, and destroy us. But the good news is that God has given us weapons to overcome the devil and his evil plans against us. Praise the Lord of glory! Remember, God goes before us and makes the crooked places straight.

We need to set our faces like flint, keep our eyes on Jesus, and hear from the Holy Spirit as He leads and guides us into all truth. It’s such a comfort knowing that we have answers to whatever the situation.

God is faithful, faithful, faithful!

John 10:10 (KJV) 10  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
2 Corinthians 10:4 (KJV) 4  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Ephesians 6:10-11 (KJV) 10  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Luke 6:47-48 (KJV) 47  Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
48  He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

John 2:5 (KJV) 5  His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV) 7  (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
Isaiah 45:2 (KJV) 2  I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

John 16:13 (KJV) 13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Are Your Beliefs Hindering God’s Promises in Your Life?

In John 5:1-16 we see the narrative about the man at the pool of Bethesda, who had an infirmity for thirty-eight years. He wanted to be healed—that’s why he was there. Then along comes Jesus and heals him. That should have been a time of rejoicing by all those who witnessed it.

However, the Jews, instead of rejoicing, rebuked the healed man for carrying his bed on the Sabbath! They missed the whole point because of their Law—their tradition.

Mark 7:13 (KJV) 13  Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

You see, God’s Word for healing had no effect on the Jews because they negated it with their tradition of the Law. And sadly, many Christians do the same thing today. Too many times people miss out on God’s blessings because they’re steeped in their traditions which cancel out the Word of God. They go by what their parents, grandparents, or even other ministers have believed and taught regardless of whether or not it lines up with God’s Word.

For example, people who were taught that healing passed away with the apostles have a hard time believing that God still heals today, even though the Word is replete with healing scriptures that verify God’s willingness to heal today. That belief will negate your faith for healing and you’ll miss out on His promises.

Another touchy subject is that God is a God of abundance and wants His people to prosper in every area of their lives. Many will fight you tooth and nail to stay poor! Yet they go to work every day trying to make enough to make ends meet. Go figure!

God has already provided for our abundance and we should appropriate it into our lives so we can do all that He has called us to do. Yet many do without because they have a poverty mentality–tradition–that keeps them from enjoying the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

We have to question why we believe what we believe so that we can fully honor God by truly believing His Word and walking in it.

All of God’s promises are for us today. Jesus is the same today, yesterday, and forever. God doesn’t change and neither do His promises. There’s no expiration date! One size fits all! Whatever you see in the Word, you can have by faith. Don’t let other people’s unbelief stop you from believing God for all that He has for you. Go for it!

2 Corinthians 1:20 (KJV) 20  For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
Hebrews 13:8 (KJV) 8  Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Malachi 3:6a (KJV) 6  For I am the LORD, I change not;

Will You Only Believe What You Can See?

John 20:24-29 (KJV) 24  But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25  The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26  And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27  Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28  And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
29  Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

In this passage we see the account of Jesus appearing to the disciples after His Resurrection. But, as you know, Thomas wasn’t there and when he heard about Jesus’ appearance, unless he actually saw and touched Jesus, he would not believe. But, when he saw Jesus, he then believed.

Now, I want you to notice Jesus’ response to Thomas, “Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” That’s referring to us! And He’s saying that the ones who believe (that’s us) without seeing are the ones who are blessed—empowered to prosper.

You see, (no pun intended), if you’ll only believe what you can “see” with your five physical senses, you’ll never walk by faith. And without faith it’s impossible to please God! That’s a very serious thing.

Everything we do as Christians, must be done in faith and walking by faith involves believing before you see the results. Take healing, for example. According to Mark 11:23-24, we are to believe we are already healed before we see the manifested healing. Many people won’t do that and they hinder their healing.

Then there’s financial abundance. God has abundance for us but we have to do what He said to do—tithe and give offerings. You have to release finances before you receive. Many people won’t do that because they don’t believe it will happen. That’s not faith. If you can see it, you don’t need faith for it because it’s already manifested.

The truth is that you can see more with your eyes of faith than you can with your physical senses because the spirit realm created the physical realm. It’s the parent force.

Let’s endeavor to walk by faith and not by sight and enjoy all that God has for us!

Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) 6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Mark 11:23-24 (KJV) 23  For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24  Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

1 Peter 2:24 (KJV) 24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Malachi 3:10 (KJV) 10  Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Luke 6:38 (KJV) 38  Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV) 7  (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

Who’s Your Example?

Who is your example for life? Who are you following and emulating? You’d be surprised to know that you are probably emulating people on TV, in the sports arena, at work, etc. Do you find yourself saying things similar to those you’ve heard others say and maybe even wondered where did that come from?

Words and actions are significant and shouldn’t be taken lightly. We will give an account of every idle word –every non-productive word we speak.

Matthew 12:36-37 (AMP) 36  But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every idle (inoperative, nonworking) word they speak.
37  For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced.

Our thoughts become our words, our words become our actions, and we are accountable for all we say and do. The buck stops with us. We have nobody to blame but ourselves. We can’t be blaming everyone else for our actions. We are to be responsible Christians. Jesus is our example as noted in John 13:15.

John 13:15 (KJV) 15  For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

Yes, Jesus is our example because He’s the Pattern Son and since He is all that, then we know that we are well able to follow His example because God would never, and I mean never, require us to do something we couldn’t do. How smart would that be? Even humans know better than that!

Now, since Jesus is our example, let’s look at the example He set: He healed the sick, cast out demons, cleansed the lepers, raised the dead, and preached the gospel! That might sound like a tall order but God never expected us to do any of that in our own strength—we couldn’t! That’s why Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to indwell and empower us. Wow! We’re power houses going somewhere to be a blessing!

This Christian walk with the Lord is so exciting! Actually seeing people get healed and set free is exhilarating! That’s the heart of our Father.

People are hurting, the world is hurting, and we’re the ones with the answers. We’re the ones who know Jesus and the ones who are commissioned to do exploits in Jesus’ name!

God doesn’t want us to limit Him. He is well able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we can think, know, or imagine but it’s all dependent on the power that’s working in us. And that power comes from abiding in His Word and following Jesus’ example.

Let’s follow His example and be all that the Lord has for us to be!

Matthew 10:8 (KJV) 8  Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
Psalm 78:41 (KJV) 41  Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
Ephesians 3:20 (KJV) 20  Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

1 John 2:6 (KJV) 6  He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

Walking Dead Men

1 John 5:12 (KJV) 12  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Did you know that you’re living on planet earth among walking dead men? According to I John 5:12, if you don’t have Jesus, if you’re not saved –born-again—you are dead!

Now, that doesn’t mean you’re not breathing, but rather that you’re not enjoying the fullness of the abundant life that Jesus came to give – John 10:10. You’re not spiritually alive. You can’t get what Jesus gave unless you have Jesus!

When we speak of walking dead men, it’s not physical death because they’re still waking around. But we’re talking about spiritual deadness. When you get born again, you’re body doesn’t get born again, it’s your spirit, the real you, that comes to life. That’s the part that contacts God, that’s the part that the Holy Spirit speaks to, leading, guiding, and directing you.

Your mind doesn’t get re-born. It gets renewed by feeding on God’s Word. Then when your spirit and mind line up with the Word, your body lines up because it’s two against one.

You can never get too much Word in you. We who are born again will live throughout all eternity, using faith and walking in God’s Word. Faith is forever because God is a faith God. Actually, it’s the faith of Jesus in us! Praise the Lord for His unspeakable gift.

John 10:10 (KJV) 10  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Galatians 2:20 (KJV) 20  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Quitting Dishonors God!

How many times have you worked on a project and because of all the glitches, you wanted to quit and throw it out the window? (Those thoughts often occur in connection with computer issues!) My guess is that every one of us has had those thoughts at one time or another.

However, you probably forged ahead with your project and opted not to quit but to see it through. And, when it was all said and done, you were glad you didn’t quit—right?

Well, that’s how it is with the things of God. We need to stay in it for the long run—no matter what! As someone once said, you shouldn’t have an escape route. Don’t give yourself the option of quitting and hoping you did the right thing. Quitting is a disgrace and dishonors God.

When you’re praying about something specific, you need to have a “stick-to-it” attitude. It’s not a matter of how long it takes. If God has promised it in His Word, then you need to stand and having done all to keep standing. Remember, in one hour things can change!

God has already given us every promise to meet our needs and be successful on planet earth. If we aren’t, it’s our fault, not God’s. What more can He do since He gave us His all – Jesus, His Name, His Blood, the Holy Spirit and His gifts, the faith of Jesus, the Word of God, the angels to assist us, and more and more. We truly are blessings going somewhere to show forth His goodness!

That’s why it dishonors God when we quit because quitting says that we don’t believe that God is on our side and a very present help in time of need. Quitting overlooks the promises and tries to function without God.

Let’s be doers of the Word and believe that what God has promised, He indeed will deliver. That’s what faith is. And that’s how we please God!

Ephesians 6:10-14 (KJV) 10  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Psalm 115:15 (KJV) 15  Ye are blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth.

Psalm 46:1 (KJV)  God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

2 Corinthians 1:20 (KJV) 20  For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) 6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Do the Circumstances of Life Seem to be Controlling You?

God never intended for the circumstances of life to control us. We are to be in control because we have been given a mandate to dominate our area of influence. But, many times it might seem that “things” are in control and not us. Why is that? Read on.

You’ve probably heard us called the ‘blab it and grab it” group. But, I want to tell you that that’s exactly what is happening in your life if things seem out of control. Take a look at what you have been saying. What’s been coming out of your mouth?

Proverbs 13:2-3 (KJV) 2  A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
3  He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

Notice that the above scripture is referring to the words of your mouth. It’s by your words that you order your life. In other words, what you say is what you get. But, you might say that you haven’t been speaking evil. What about: things never work out for me, if I start doing better, something always happens, or how ‘bout Murphy’s Law! I think you get the picture. (Note: I never confess Murphy’s Law. I say, “Whatever can go right will go right at the most opportune time.”)

James 3:2 (KJV) 2  For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

James makes it very clear that you can control your whole body with the words of your mouth. And you can control your circumstance with the words of your mouth. It’s all the same principle.

I challenge you today to take heed to what you have been saying, whether it’s been for weeks, months, or even years. Have those words brought blessings into your life and those around you? If not, then it’s time to take inventory and change so that you can, indeed, live the life that your Heavenly Father intended.

Genesis 1:26 (KJV) 26  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Do You Let Opinions of Others Define You?

Just who are you? Have you ever wondered what people really think of you? Should you actually care what they think? These are good questions that affect us more than we think they do.

How many times have you done something with the thought in mind about what others might say or think? We’ve all done this at one time or another. But let me say that people are going to think what they want, whether or not it’s true. In fact, some don’t ever let the facts get in the way of what they think or believe! How ‘bout that for being on the wrong page!

You are not other people’s opinions. They don’t (at least they shouldn’t) control you. You are the one who determines what you think and believe. You are not people’ opinions. You are what God said you are and He speaks the truth!

I encourage you to go to God’s Word and find out all the good things He has to say about you and enjoy every day of your life!

Here are a few scriptures to get you started:

Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV) 11  For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Psalm 139:14 (KJV) 14  I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
1 Corinthians 1:30 (KJV) 30  But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
Psalm 17:8 (KJV) 8  Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings

Psalm 17:8 (KJV) 8  Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings…

If You’re Standing in Faith, Why are You So Fearful (or Worried)?

Fear is the enemy of your faith. Too many times, we as Christians, make good confessions but then go about our day worrying about what we just prayed and confessed. (Worry is fear!) That’s why things don’t work out the way we want. We are the ones short-circuiting our faith.

Faith is believing that what God has said in His Word is true and then acting on it. In other words, faith is believing God’s Word.

Fear, on the other hand, is believing what the devil has lied to you about. Remember, the devil is the father of lies and that’s what he does best—lies to you about anything and everything. He is so wily that he will even sneak in a partial truth to confuse you. But, a lie is a lie, no matter how it’s cloaked.

If you pray according to God’s Word, by praying His promises, then you need to believe in your prayers. Worrying about the problem will cancel out the prayers you have prayed and you’ll be no better off then you were before. But, if you pray according to God’s Word, and then stand firm, believing that what you have prayed will indeed come to pass (because God said it), then you can go about your daily activities, resting in the joy and peace of the Lord.

John 8:44 (KJV) 44  Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV) 7  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Romans 8:15 (KJV) 15  For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Hebrews 2:15 (KJV) 15  And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Romans 15:13 (KJV) 13  Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
